n2advnture Posted July 20, 2014 Author Posted July 20, 2014 And then there is this guy...ok, enough for now
Colt45 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Thanks Mark. If you are able to post any insight gained from producers, I'd love to hear it -- Cheers.
polarbear Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Awesome! I'd love to get on some retailers good side a wrangle myself a ticket to that show someday
LordAnubis Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Wow is this not a show for the average man can walk into? I dont understand the point of something that is a show purely for retailers. What is it a pising contest? "check out how awesome our products are".
... Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Wow is this not a show for the average man can walk into? I dont understand the point of something that is a show purely for retailers. What is it a pising contest? "check out how awesome our products are". Actually, it is an event where manufacturers and makers promote their products at staffed booths, with retailers touring the room to view new products, gather info and get the sales pitch, meet with other retailers and manufacturers. It is a trade show within the business, as exist in many other fields... 1
Fuzz AI Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Trade shows are definitely fun! Been to my fair share of them over the years.
AlohaStyle Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Wow is this not a show for the average man can walk into? I dont understand the point of something that is a show purely for retailers. What is it a pising contest? "check out how awesome our products are". They also have conference sessions during the day which include industry training like new regulations that retailers have to follow, new legislation etc. For example, I know a guy that went to a session about retailer credit card transactions and regulations about processing tobacco sales. He manages the online sales for a good sized retailer so it's important for them...
LordAnubis Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Yep, sounds like a junket to me. So instead of having reps in each location with knowledge about their products and knowledge about what the company is doing, they just have a junket every year and tell the retailers to come to them. Sorry, just seems like a tax write off or something to me. I enjoy this thread though ! More ****** Girls!!
n2advnture Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Couldn't find Hiroshi, I don't think he has a booth. He may be trying to pimp it to a distributor. I'll keep looking for him though. Nothing new and exciting this year except for the St Dupont Padron series and the Padron Anniversary "Hammer" humidor. Padron said the blend is completely different blend (made with tobacco that was aged 6 years) than their other cigars and will be offered in 10 count boxes later. But I also heard that the hammer will only be offered to those who bought the humidor for replenishing it.
n2advnture Posted July 21, 2014 Author Posted July 21, 2014 Tons of ****** and electronic cigarettes and vaporizors this year. The IPCPR also pushed out a ton of the smaller guys who has single booths opting to make more money through selling blocks of booths. There are very few single booth vendors, some of which had the most innovative stuff in the past.

The last thing you want is Mr. Average Joe from the street asking you to buy 10 pcs of XYZ. These are events for wholesalers and retailers. Setting up distribution channels and the like. 3
PigFish Posted July 21, 2014 Posted July 21, 2014 Thanks for the updates mate. I must admit that I have an eye biased to the ST Dupont stuff…. Nice! Thanks a ton for sharing.
saintsmokealot Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Thanks for sharing. I worked in a boutique factory in New Orleans and was able to go to the 2005 RTDA. It was a great time as I got to meet a lot of cigar legends in the NC community. One day I hope to find my way again!
Havanaaddict Posted July 22, 2014 Posted July 22, 2014 Mark how was the turn out this year? From some of your pic it looked kinda thin!!!
n2advnture Posted July 22, 2014 Author Posted July 22, 2014 Mark how was the turn out this year? From some of your pic it looked kinda thin!!! Probably the most boring show I've been to. I firmly believe it's due to the IPCPR focusing on selling as much booth space in blocks as possible. I believe this results in fewer innovative and exciting stuff. There was a flea market feel with a bunch of message chair, back pain equipment and TENS stimulators as well as the vaporizors, ****** and ecigs. Everything that isn't the "International Premium Cigars and Pipes Retails Association"

Sorry, just seems like a tax write off or something to me. I enjoy this thread though ! More ****** Girls!! I can see where it might seem like that but the cigar mfgs do upwards of 70% of their yearly sales at the tradeshow to store owners. It's easier for them to display all their wares for retailers to sample than it would be for a rep to travel to every shop in his or her region (some have a metro area, some have several states and others have entire regions to cover). Additionally, for smaller mfgs, it is cost prohibitive to hire reps and still keep their product reasonably priced. Especially, since cigar smokers are inherently cheap ? I hope this helps 1
