Over the last couple of months I've been doing a bit of a retrospective of the Colección Habanos (book humidors) on my blog. I haven't seen something like this before, so I thought I'd post it here (in summary, to save you all trawling through 15,000 words of my silly anecdotes). Ranked in order of goodness.

2005 Montecristo Maravillas No. 1

Rich, full tobacco, coffee and cream, leather and chocolate towards the end. Absolutely fantastic cigar. So good I smoked it twice.

2008 Cohiba Sublimes Extra

Very delicate, light tobacco, grassy, coffee, some cocoa. Supremely elegant. Fantastic cigar.

2006 Trinidad Torre Iznaga

Mid strength, earthy, with strong cedar, and roasted chestnuts. Clean new-wallet leather and bean flavours later on. Mediocre burn throughout, but nonetheless a fantastic, relaxing cigar.

2004 Romeo y Julieta Fabulosos No. 6

Mid strength, notes of cream, grass, toffee and green apple, growing earthy toward the end. Great cigar.

2010 Bolívar Gran Belicoso

Mid to full tobacco, cut grass, some coffee. A bit rough but extremely pleasant.

2002 Partagás Serie C No. 1

Light to mid strength, pleasant pepper spice, first class tobacco flavour. Very nice.

2003 Hoyo de Monterrey Extravaganza

Light tobacco, considerable herbal tang with notes of grass, wood and tree sap. Nutty later on. Very approachable and pleasant cigar for a long, relaxing afternoon.

2009 San Cristobal de Habana O’Reilly

Nuts, cedar, quite dry and dusty, lot of grass toward the end. Very mild and totally inoffensive, but not in any way exceptional.

2007 H. Upmann Magnum Especiales

Mid tobacco, some sweet spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, and later ginger cookies, all ruined by a strange, soapy aftertaste throughout. Need to smoke this one again: huge potential, and I’d love to see if the soapiness is limited to just this one example.

2001 Cuaba Salomones

Burning rubber and chemical notes throughout the first inch, eventually mellowing out to a nondescript grassy flavour before turning to sour tar, this cigar is for display purposes only.

Nice summary, but even nicer reviews! The Ramon Allones Gigantes in Paris entry was especially entertaining!

Personally I prefer your (full) reviews to any other reviews on the internet without question. While I appreciate (and want) tasting notes the stories they are generally intermingled with make then far more interesting than 1500 words of a puff by puff review.

I generally save your reviews for when I am smoking a particularly good cigar and am in a mood to do a little reminiscing of my own.

If you haven't checked out Mr Grooms blog it is well worth a read.

I second this!

Been reading Mr Grooms reviews since back when he was doing Montecristos.

It's prob one of my fav cigar blogs on line and I look forward to checking the new posts every Wednesday.

Keep up the great work

Great review. I have smoked them all and each was magnificent. The quality of the tobacco used in these is second to none. These were the smoothest and most refined cigars I have smoked since the initial release of the Cohiba 30 piece Reservas from 2003.
