The food scene in Havana/Cuba is ever changing.

We have a lot of members who have been there over the past 12-24 months.

Let us know what are your favourite Paladars/restaurants and if possible your favourite dish there?

I like the smoked pork tenderloin at Castropol (lower floor) and the Bisteq Uruguay upstairs.

Ropa Vieja at Dr.Cafe, pork chops upstairs at Prado 309.

and of course chicken at El Aljibe.

I'm quite simple and get in a rut at times but for my dollar el aljibe for dinner and pan de paris for lunch

Big fan of La Terraza/Prado 309. Al Ajhibe, El Templete. My first visit to Ivan Justo's was a great experience. TBH, a Cubano on the back deck of the Nacionale at 3AM hits the spot too. :)

Not differentiating between restaurants and paladars -

Best food I had was at Santy's (however very hard to find)

Best low cost casual environment and honest food at El Ajibe (easy by taxi)

Best small group causal environment with better than average food at Rio Mar (easy by cab, in Mirimar)

Best nighttime atmosphere and group dinner at La Guarida (Havana CBD)

Honourable mentions are Prado, el Templete,

Just returning from Havana and there certainly was some pleasant discoveries and of course some déceptions.

On top I need to place San Cristobal as the best overall meal in Havana during the 2 weeks.

All was simply perfect, my seafood plate was a masterpiece, the fish filet was absolutely perfect, the shrimps, extremely tasty and again perfectly cooked. On the finale for this plate, the 2 lobster tails that were cooked to perfection. The best I had in Cuba and I lost count after a few days. My partner's main dish, beef, was also very good and the appetizer (the house special), a plate for 2 that included many of the house's specialtieswas an experience. The service was a 10, the chef owner(what a sympathetic and warm guy), who is Cuban, has worked in Hong-Kong and a couple of other places before returning and opening this spot. The decor is fantastic with possibly the largest old clock collection in Cuba. Our dinning neighboors were the French ambassador and his wife, the room next door was some staff from the Canadian Embassy. For me, this place is one more reason to go back to Cuba.

No.2 is Dona Eutemia on a little dead-end street off the Cathedral Square (Plaza). This is very good all around and inexpensive. We had a few different dishes as we went there twice, my highlight dish was a monster lobster plate cut up and served with a sauce that was simply delicious. Again here the service was excellent

No.3 - Ivan Chef Justo's, near the Revolution Museum. I had a lamb dish that was simply great.

No.4 - La Terraza, bring your appetite, great BBQ. The lamb leg...yest the whole thing was done very well and let's just say that I did not have a biog breakfast the next day. The chicken is great, the porc also, it was not overcooked like many other places.

No.5 - Cafe del Oriente - A chic State restaurant, very good wine selection (great deals on Torres' Spanish and Chiliean's and the food was good and plentiful.

Deceptions... La Guarida, is success going to their heads? Rice dry, potatoes not done too well, one of the friend's dish was overcooked... Mine was ok, 4 out 4 deceptions and considering the cost - overpriced. El Aljibe...Cold food and service, out for me, it was good but... El Imprente, I am not sure if it is spelled right, but an old printing shop in old Havana, nice decor, but the food was cold like the service.

Certainly an honorable mention needs to go to the steak house in the Parque Centrale hotel, service, steaks done to perfection as ordered and a decent wine list.

Rio Mar w their fresh octopus was excellent as was everything on the menu, treated my driver and his wife to dinner

Bottom pic is me:

1. Asking for directions

2. You come here often?

3. Como se dice....you so fine

4. Where is the closest discoteque?

Restaurant at the Hemingway Marina was also tasty and cheap, dont remember the name but fresh Dolphin dinner was like $6

La Guarida, still brilliant and they're adding a roof terrace. Marlin tacos and octopus salad, very good.

La Moraleja, they've tried to "posh it up" a bit but still very good. Rabbit is very good as is the octopus salad, I have heard a few people disappointed with it but I haven't had a bad meal there.

El Litoral, on the Malecon near the US Special Interests building. Great tapas, big portions, stick with the tapas, no need for main courses too, too much food. Well worth it.

El Aljibe, always a favourite of mine, lunch though, not dinner. Always consistent.

El Guajirito, old favourite of mine, food is fine, not spectacular but the surroundings are fun. Staff are a laugh.

Le Chansonnier, could be world class if they fixed the AC. Great food. Very interesting rooms.

La Fontana, lovely surroundings, good food and service. Good bar at the front.

Espacios, chef there worked in New York, did a shoulder of pork in the wood oven the night I was there, nice place.

Santys sushi. Good sushi if you like sushi but very good fresh (cooked) fish too. Abolutely worth the trip out to Jaimanitas at least once, if only to see the surrealness of the surroundings.

Tried Cocineros once, Jose loves it, it's nice but you'd see exactly the same bar in Milan, Madrid or Barcelona. It feels like you've left Cuba, not for me.

Vistamar in Miramar, really nice building, food decent not spectacular but good place to get away for a while.

To people watch the new "Farandula", Espacios, la Fontana or Cocineros.

The old favourites, El Templete, La Barca still good, I only ate in Dr Cafe once and didn't like it, I had ribs like shoe leather. Everyone else I know goes on about the place though.

I only ate once at la Terraza on the roof of that building on the Prado. Food was ok, I found the noise from the fan by the barbeque very annoying. Nice people but I wouldn't be in a rush back. Lots of people like it though. Good new nightclub in the ground floor of that building..lots of laughs.

El Gato Tuerto for the Bucanero. Ernesto, best barman in Cuba.

If you're looking for a club to bring 30 people to, go to El Sauce, look up who's on and go for it. One of the best bands I've ever seen, 600 Cubans of all ages having great fun, not looking to meet tourists, $1 beers and Cuba Libres, A big barbeque going all night doing beer-soaked chicken. You get to see how some Cubans spend some money. Great fun.
