I think soft drinks are too cheap anyway. It'll help reduce obesity in children and teens IMO.

Aren't there more pressing things for the government to focus on?

There certainly is. You have to remember one thing about government, it is like water. It takes the easiest route or path of least resistance. It is easier to tax and control things that it has authority over rather than focusing on issues such as crime and things that greatly impact the quality of life. One can argue that soda and tobacco impacts the quality of life, it does when abused. What I can't grasp is why we cannot get a firm response and stance on things such as the random shooting and murder in a city such as Chicago. How is it that on a routine weekend in Chicago dozens of people are shot? I'm not blaming the police because their hands are tied in certain circumstances but it amazes me how the mayor and governor basically turn a blind eye.

Not while they can figure out a way to either tax you on it or fine you for it. Its why I'm hoping for something radically different from the next election cycle over here; the problem is, people like to find someone or something to follow, and are swayed by sugary promises and flowery language, not by the candidate's proven track record and how they have served their constituency.

Whats scary to me is those in power - regardless of their political leanings - are trying to radically change our way of life, and using either a bully pulpit or legislative backdoors to accomplish it. If we don't stop it now, we won't be able to not long from now...

A "possible" tax on sugary drinks in Great Britain is an attempt to change your way of life? lookaround.gif
