SaintLuis Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 My lotus double guillotine is too dull to keep using, so I'm in the market for a new one. I prefer the old school straight cut, so while I'm not opposed to options that perform punch as well, that's what I'll be using most of the time. I have a double guillotine xicar xi2 that's sort of my old standby, but I think I'd like something higher end. I liked my buddies xi3 - felt nice and heavy and had a nice snap to it. So I thought I'd toss up my decision to the mob. What are you guys using that you love, and think I should buy? Saint
Marker Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Don't think you can go wrong with either the Xi3 or palio. Many colors/choices to go with them.
Cigar Surgeon Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 V-cut. I was using guillotines for years and the v-cutter has won me over. You get the benefit of a guillotine and a punch in one.
ptrthgr8 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Another vote for Palio. I have three of them now. May need to find an excuse to buy another... just because.
Armaniac Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Xikar xi1. It's higher end than the xi2 and I like how the screws look on the face. 1
Joker Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Have used the base Xikar for years, but have recently purchased the Palio The Palio is well constructed and very sharp Have retired the Xikar
Guyman1966 Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Xikar xi1. It's higher end than the xi2 and I like how the screws look on the face. xikar2.jpeg +1 and Xikar stands behind it for a lifetime
Philski Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 If portability isn't an issue, I would recommend this. My brother bought one for me a while ago and it's great, hefty and v. sharp
SaintLuis Posted April 29, 2014 Author Posted April 29, 2014 Admittedly, I'm in love with the Dupont Maxijet, which matches my handy torch lighter. http://www.amazon.com/S-T-Dupont-Maxijet-Cutter-Cigar/dp/B006WC7CLA Obnoxious price. Still, I'm not totally opposed to ruthlessly murdering $200 in honor of cutting my stogies! Great comments, keep 'em coming!
earthson Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 Palio! Lifetime warranty, the blades never seem to dull, even when cutting through the stems you can find in NCs, and it's scalloped to double as a cigar rest!
Smalls Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I have a Xikar Xi2, and I am not all that thrilled with it. It leaves a raised ridge of tobacco on the cut face that look like it was pinched rather than cut cleanly. The cutter is sort of like the xikar lighters I have.. They work, but I think there are better options out there. I wouldn't spend more on a higher end xikar based on my experience with this one.
sw15825 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I use xikar and palio for cuts and love them. They will sharpen any xikar free of charge as they have a lifetime warranty. I have the cheapest one it works great. The palio is the burlwood one it looks and cuts great. That way I have an everyday and nicer looking cutter on hand. I really like them both.

X1 I have the top end Xi3 Titanium cutter but it doesn't cut dead straight on tightly packed caps and the blades appear to be dulling after only 6 months. I want a flawless precision cut... dubleuhb Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Another vote for Palio, I carry one at all times, carbon fiber and the burlwood look great. Have another in my vehicle, a few scattered around the house, one in my work bag. I Have an empty cigar box full of other brands that just never felt or cut right. I always grab an extra from the box when going to a herf for ''that guy''.
JHands Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Another vote for xi here Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
SaintLuis Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 I looked through the palio website, and they really only have the one format, which I'm not thrilled with. I lean towards function over form here, but I wouldn't mind a bit of both. Is this their entire offering? http://www.paliocutter.com/products.htm
Blackham Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I've owned 2 Palios before and now using a Xi3 -I find the cut to be crisper on the Xi3 -The return/exchange process is smoother for Xikar. Palio I had to go through 5 phone calls over a month to settle the exchange process. -Construction is better on the Palio. The wood trim on my Xi3 fell off after a month -The contour body of the Palio also works as a cigar holder 1
