Briand Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I just watched Rake and Underbelly and was wondering if the Oz BOTL knew of anymore Oz tv shows I should check out.
fingerburner Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 The Slap is great. Go for the original Aussie version as I believe it's been done by a few different countries now.
LordAnubis Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I liked Rush (2010), The Chasers War on Everything, The Glass House and cant think of anything else at the moment.

Ken Gargett Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 coincidence. i was going to post today to ask what our american friends thought of their version of rake. the reports (i don't think it has been shown back here) have not been positive and it is a little hard to see it translating with the different legal systems - would have been a much better fit for a UK version. and i am not too sure that the US would go as far as rake does here. rake, for me, is probably the best show we have ever done (that might be a smidge biased because of a legal background). certainly he is the best character. i must confess i just sit there and chortle the entire show. quite a bit is local humour but i think that there is enough to amuse everyone. some of it is just wonderfully outrageous.

The Yankee version of Rack is nothing special . Like the office shameless and so many other shows they just are not as good as the orginal2 more great oz shows are the mini series Bastard Boys and the reno game show the Block
Nedule Posted April 29, 2014 Posted April 29, 2014 I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoyed Summer Heights High. I'll admit I have a twisted sense of humour.
Briand Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Neighbours - at some British seem to like it I loved watching neighbours when I was a teen visiting my family in the uk for a summer. Is it still on? I have not seen it in 20 plus years
Ken Gargett Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I loved watching neighbours when I was a teen visiting my family in the uk for a summer. Is it still on? I have not seen it in 20 plus years can honestly say i have never seen a minute of neighbours but i gather it is still going strong and has most of the same characters. tho i believe it did give kylie her start! i remember being on a mini-bus in wyoming 30 years ago. only other people a brit family. their little girl was having kittens about something. i was slumped in a heap all bandaged after a month in hospitals and various ops. finally the father leans across and asks if it would be okay for his daughter to ask me something. fine, i said. she wanted an insight into what was happening in neighbours. she thought that being an aussie, i'd have seen episodes that had not arrived in the uk as yet. when i told her i had never seen it, the look of utter contempt was something i'll never forget. she did not speak a word to me for the rest of the trip (not that that was a problem).
MIKA27 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I really don't believe we produce any good TV shows.... My wife likes that series "LOVE CHILD" but thats all I know. I mostly watch American and Canadian TV.
El Presidente Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Wiggles "Wake up Jeff !!!!!"... oh that is classic television.
polarbear Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Wiggles "Wake up Jeff !!!!!"... oh that is classic television. Play School is also good if you've got kids

Ken Gargett Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I really don't believe we produce any good TV shows.... My wife likes that series "LOVE CHILD" but thats all I know. I mostly watch American and Canadian TV. plenty of decent shows. mostly cop shows. the occasional gem. some of the older historical stuff was very good at the time. but i'd argue Rake. i'll accept the audience might be a little limited, most lawyers truly love it, but it is a cracker. some of the stuff that comes out is exquisite. describing the confessional a "sort of council tip for spiritual guilt". spat my wine across the room i laughed so hard.
Ken Gargett Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 can't believe i forgot it. has there ever been anything to match 'the norman gunston show'. new levels, brilliant, ground breaking, cringing. sensational. and extremely funny.
Bill Hayes Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 I'm probably in the minority, but I enjoyed Summer Heights High. I'll admit I have a twisted sense of humour. Agree. Love Summer Heights High and his recent follow up Ja'mie: Private School Girl. But it's a very specific sense of humour, kind of cringeworthy, like the English version of The Office. I liked the first series of Underbelly set in the 90's with the Moran family because I frequented some of the places featured in the show at the time the show was set. The following series of Underbelly were mostly just an excuse to show sex scenes. I reckon we don't have as much budget here in Aus so the commercial TV suffers. But our film industry isn't too bad. And we seem to have produced a reasonable amount of Hollywood actors considering the population. If you liked the first Underbelly I would have a look at the movie titled 'Chopper' and the movie titled 'Animal Kingdom' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNszOl14AWg 1
