Impromptu cigar art

Recommended Posts

So I have my daughter (5) this long weekend. Out the front veranda where I smoke I have a container filled with bands. I was making her some lunch and she was sitting out the front with her art supplies.

This is the result

Interesting choice on her part to have flipped that top-left-most Epi No.2 label. ok.gif

Great to see a child's imagination hard at work (or play as it were). I have a 10 month old daughter and the one thing I tell my wife is I want to help her keep her imagination and childhood dreams alive and well for as long as possible. I don't remember when mine were lost or stolen, but evidently I didn't keep a good eye on it and it got away from me.

Cute picture.

That is my main goal. It's terrifying to me how girls in this age are seemingly forced to "grow up" ASAP. I loved all the fun and imagination of my childhood a hell of a lot more than being an adult and want the same from her.

To me books, drawing, making up songs and rhymes is vital. Encourage them to dream, indulge their imaginations and read read read with them. A love of books keeps a active mind and imagination that TV and modern culture seems to quash.

Play in the dirt, hit stuff with sticks, catch lizards and bugs. Anything that is not what our sterile, sanitary society is so hung up on these days.

A symptom that really worried me was this: my daughter was in hospital after her tonsils were removed. Across from her bed was another girl of about 8-10 years, her grandmother was with her and I kept hearing her constantly correcting granddaughters speech, so I listened for a while. The girl spoke with a thick Californian/American accent, all her family were Australian. This, to me, could only be the result of the child watching so much TV and spending so little time with her parents that it has influenced her speech completely. Scary

(Nothing against Americans at all but this is bloody Australia)

Sorry for the rant and the unsolicited advice but I believe these things are very important. We have enough ignorant people in this world

That is awesome man. My buddy is saving his bands and when he gets enough he's gonna lay them down on a table and lacquer over them

I have a little girl on the way (my first child), and I envision the same things for her. It is admirable that you see and attempt to influence the importance of vision and imagination. As my boy Brooks said in Shawshank Redemption: "The world went and got itself in a big damn hurry..." I wish more people would stop to appreciate the things that matter.

X2 a future sister of the leaf perhaps?

Well, she's damn good at identifying and sorting cigars with just the aroma ;)

I got her to select me two from each box that smell the best and they've all been fantastic
