bradbrennan Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 Well I've searched and searched and haven't found a topic on hand/home rolled, so if I missed it maybe someone can point me in the right direction please. I'm thinking it's an appropriate topic here, but again if mistaken, someone please let me know. My thoughts on rolling your own is much like discussions on coffee and wine and scotch. Many of us like variety and I'm pretty sure I've seen some others on here that have rolled their own. The main reason that drove me to try rolling my own was before finding more affordable/available cc's. However, I feel like I have some pretty nice wrapper leaf and hate to waste it, but I need some better filler leaf with more flavor. So my hope with this topic is to hear from some others that have found some success with growing, buying, storing, rolling your own cigars. I'd very much appreciate anything you want to share on this. Thanks, Brad
Profmd Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 It's funny because I was going to bring up the same topic. Have found a website that sells NC tobacco to be used for rolling your own cigars. Thought it looked like it would be great to try. Sell the whole package of filler, binder and wrapper tobacco. Would also love to know if anyone has tried their hand at it. I have watched videos and it looks easy, but I am sure it's tough as hell to do!!

Not saying it's easy, but with a lot of practice and watching a lot of those videos you mentioned, it's kind of a nice treat when they actually smoke!

fookite Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I rolled a few dozen cigars. It's actually pretty fun and relaxing, and they smoked ok too. The reason I don't anymore is because 1) I can't get Cuban whole leaf tobacco, and 2) it makes a gigantic mess if you're not very organized.
Maplepie Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 it makes a gigantic mess if you're not very organized. oh lord does it ever! Good part is that it makes the room smell like a fantastic humidor. yum! i also love it when i clean my pipes after 5 bowls of not cleaning. smells of a great tobaccoy flavour that doesn't stick to clothes or walls but does linger. yummy!

And furthermore with all the affordable CC's available, I wouldn't even try to roll my own Cuban leaf as they can do it much better. NC's are what motivated me to roll my own. So many tasteless smokes, but unfortunately I'm rolling NC leaf and have the same problem , nice nose but tasteless. And I know the better leaf is not likely going to be available to general public. Was hoping someone on here had a special stash and might sell a leaf or few
polarbear Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 I'd love to try a home rolled Can't import raw tobacco leaf into Aus :-(
bradbrennan Posted April 14, 2014 Author Posted April 14, 2014 I'd love to try a home rolled Can't import raw tobacco leaf into Aus :-( that's interesting why is that? I think the hand rolled becomes more special when you put the time and roll yourself :-) otherwise they may just come across as not very pretty smokes. I know they sure give you a new appreciation for what it takes to roll a cigar
fookite Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 One thing I liked to do when I was rolling was to take half of a nice smelling leaf and just roll it up and smoke it. Or roll up little short filler smokes with the scraps left over from big cigars.

canadianbeaver Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Your thread got me thinking, so on my morning walk with my pup in the forest this morning I got this together... the trick was keeping him from attacking me for the sticks. 2
fookite Posted April 14, 2014 Posted April 14, 2014 Good idea! Did you find some nice tobacco? Eh, not really. For those little cheroots or puritos or whatever that I would roll, I was a bit partial to the Brazillian Habano viso I got from leaf only.

You can apply for a permit and then have it sit in quarantine for 3-6 months I think.
