Newkarian Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Well my beloved 1997 jeep wrangler is starting to get a little long in the tooth. I have had it for years and brought it back from death several times over with new parts. Was going to keep it until I caught glimpse of the new Willys Wheeler wrangler. Stripped bare 4x4 goodnes right there folks. I love driving things with barely any comforts lol. Anyone have one of these models and care to chime in? Any other jeep wrangler lovers on here care to discuss? 1
Jeremy Festa Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Awwww mate! I had a Jepp Wrangler from 1998 till about 2003ish. It was red, and its name was Satan. Loved it. Most fun car I have ever had. Took the doors off straight away. And it was forever up the beach (Double Island Point) where we folded down the windscreen, and used to drive around with goggles on. This is the ultimate story I remember about it... One Autumn morning, we were racing up to Rainbow Beach early, and it was very nearly high tide, and the swell was massive. So, wrong time to go really. Anyway, we came to a narrow point where the Cherry Venture rested (it was an old shipwreck, now removed). We were waiting for a gap in the swell and I thought I read it right and put my foot down. Anyway, I severely mistimed our run, and just as we were racing passed the shipwreck a two foot slab of water ran up the beach, under the car, nearly dragging us with it, the wave then slammed into the shipwreck and barrelled back over the Satan, and me and 3 of my mates all got barrelled together before we went surfing. That car went down in history from that morning on. Would love to get a Rubicon! But now I am married and have 2 kids.
nikonNUT Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 You had me at Willys. I've got two but they are a bit older and in need of a restoration. Both Station Sedans, one is from 1954 and the other from 1952 They are the barest of bones rides but I love them so.... BTW, that's a 62 and not mine. Hope mine will look that good someday
MIKA27 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 Nice thread! Yes, I own a black 2004 TJ Wrangler soft top - Recently purchased a Rampage tinted soft top from the States to replace the old factory kit, drives amazingly, very reliable yet THIRSTY vehicle! Wouldn't change it and when I do, will upgrade to a newer model of course. NEW WILLYS 1

cigcars Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I LIKE them a LOT - especially the newer 4 door Wranglers! But - and I do mean a big "BUT"... due to how HIGH off the ground the step into it is I'd never be able to manage it, and won't go through having to use a step ladder to climb in and out of it all day. I've asked these Wrangler owners, "What, do you take a running start to get into your vehicle or something???" and I just basically get, "Yeah, it's way up there!"
nikonNUT Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 "...yet THIRSTY vehicle!" Mika, I have heard that there will be a diesel option in 2016. Maybe not quite as thirsty
CanuckSARTech Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I had a 1988 YJ Wrangler for some years, from 1998 or so, through until about end 2005. She was a great 'ute. Over the years, I suped her up, did the engine 40-over (had the old AMC inline 4.2L straight 6, a kick-ass engine), tons of little bells and whistles done, did a 4" lift kit spring-over (giving her 9-1/2" of lift), 36" Mud Kings, etc., etc. All white, with the desert tan interior, and black accents. It was a show vehicle that I'd completely dump into the mud on the weekends, and then spend 3 days trying to get her clean again. It was definitely a fun toy, and one that my wife only got to ride in a few times before I sold it. We've always both said that I'll / we'll do another project Jeep in the future. I've posted the picture on here before, but no idea where it is now. I'll perhaps repost in the future. I'm a bit of a purist, though. These new 4-door things are not Jeeps - the namesake has been bastardized. Aside from the regular passenger vehicles with multiple doors (Cherokee, Wagoneer, etc.), the real "Jeeps" are Willys, CJ, YJ, TJ's. None of this four-door crap, and heeeeellllll no with the Liberty's, Compass'es, etc., etc. 1

Maybe not quite as thirsty A diesel would be perfect! Im with you on the 4 door thing not my favorite. Im going with the Willys Wheeler 2 door with half doors. If theres a diesel option I would definitely wait for that. I love the old landrovers just a pricey and hard to find option here in the states.
Marker Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I am going to give up my motorcycle with the anticipation of getting a Jeep Wrangler in the next few years. First I have to take the kids to Disneyworld. Then trade in the truck for a wrangler.
JHands Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I'll take my fj over a jeep Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Nedule Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I had an '89 YJ, was a wickedly fun vehicle, super tough, leaf spring suspension on all 4 corners, you could feel every rock on the road but it could take a beating. I had hard & soft top. Not the greatest winter vehicle, the short wheel base made it want to spin in circles every time you farted. I remember on cold snowy days, snow flakes would actually come through the heater vents & crappy roof seals, but when you're 18 who cares. I'd love to buy another one as a summer toy.
El Presidente Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 I do love my 2007 JK Wrangler...now that I have got most of the kinks worked out of it. There is a lot to be said for cars built in Japan and Germany It is an Italian 2.8 Diesel which is a cracker if slightly agricultural engine. I am about to retire her, do her up and just keep her for the beach. They are a tremendous 4x4, just not a great daily driver by any means.
