Does anybody have any idea exactly which factory "BRS" is?

Unfortunately I do not. However, there are Espys with this same code as Sir Winnies. I assume this is to touch upon what is being discussed in the sir winnie thread?

Actually considering a box of juan lopez and not sure. I knew about the Churchills but I am racking the brain on Juan Lopez. Need a couple more boxes of the 2.

What's wrong with RMS for JL2? They were putting out some really nice Robustos in 2012, although I think I said back then, the D4s tasted like JL#2s, which was weird.

Current System - 2003 on

With this system of factory codes, all factories have a unique three capital letter code that can be changed monthly and yearly. With this system there are a substantial number of unique codes available, which means there need not be a duplicate code for many years.

Consequently identifying and tracking them is virtually impossible. Only those with access to the code generator program would know codes in advance.

Occasionally a code may be reported but even if correct, it is of limited use as it may only be valid for short time.

Given the much improved quality control from 2005/6 on, the difference between factory output is reduced, making it less important to "chase factories". In addition, the rationalisation, improvement, and replacement of factories means that individual brands are now more likely to be made in a single factory, rather than in multiple factories.

This is less true than it was in the early 90s. IMHO. Late 90s box code hunting was a matter of survival because it was the wild west. But to say that "individual brands are now more likely to be made in a single factory, rather than in multiple factories" is belied by the facts Of the Montecristo vitolas, there is no factory consistency. Worse even for Romeo, Of the 22 or so Romeo vitolas, there is zero factory consistency. Hoyo, largely the same.

Definitely. Where has gone the concept of "casa matriz", btw? No one seems to remember it; has it ever been applied?

When cigaraficionado did their habanos feature they listed the mother factories. At least quai dorsay, which is produced for seita (owned by altadis) has a consistent headquarters.

How do you find them different the PSM? From others?

Bmu have less fruit and less depth down the middle. More accessible and better fresh.

Can't compare but your right it is good fresh. Do you know if JL 1 goes the same ? Also do you think PSM is the mother factory like SMG was so good in 07 and 08?

Mother factory is segui in guira de melena. Dirty secret for juan lopez is that segui does not make the best jl ones. Segui was rbt. Gdm has a second factory and it does juan lopez no 1s better. Buy all j lo 1 from there. Codes are smg tem lot through early 11. Very astute palate!!!!

Fyi. Segui is rbt mpe and pra

So if I am buy-in PSM for 2013 would be the best bet? Im talking no 1 as I am out and cannot stand it any longer.

Check for bme first, had good luck w those. Problem is that 2011-2012 is spotty for tobacco. Give psm a shot. Id even split a box w u to sample. Psm are also densely packed. Sign of satisfying cigars and intelligent qc.

I know underfilling happening way too much. Can you clarify spotty for tabacco? Box years or not good crop cured in 2012?
