Weeklystogie Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Wondering if I can get some recommendations from the better traveled on this forum - I'll be in Rome and Paris for about a week each in late May for a trip with the girlfriend and trying to find some good apartments to rent. I haven't done more than pass through each of these cities so I'm wondering if anyone has any good neighborhood recommendations to narrow the search? I'll keep looking but if anyone has suggestions I'd love to take them
Lotusguy Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 I highly recommend www.perfectlyparis.com - had a fantastic stay last September in one of their apartments in Montmartre 2

Blackham Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 +1 to Lotusguy. I used airbnb to score an 1-room apartment in the Pigalle (few blocks south of Montmartre) area, non-touristy and a foodie's paradise

I believe you were a bit more south as Pigalle, stricto sensu, is the red light district, it's full of tourists all year long and full of fast food and terrible kebab ("grecs" in french) shops… (though there are a few squares and blind alleys that are preserved).

LOL. That's how I remember the area around Pigalle station. We stayed a stone's throw away from the Abbesses station in Montmarte. Now that area had a lot going for it.

It's a very sought after area since over 20 years. Very "chic", trendy. It's actually a few blocks north from Pigalle. 1

Weeklystogie Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Thanks guys - checking that website around Montemarte. Some pretty nice spots there. Appreciate the heads up. Andrew I'd love to meet up for a smoke but I think I'm at the mercy of the gf on this trip, the only thing I I think can screw up is not having a place to stay when the plane lands
PapaDisco Posted February 6, 2014 Posted February 6, 2014 Trastevere is my favorite neighborhood when visiting Rome. It's off the beaten tourist track, but easy and close to wade into the melee when you chose. Hotel Santa Maria, a converted convent, has a wonderful courtyard and lovely rooms.
Weeklystogie Posted February 6, 2014 Author Posted February 6, 2014 Thanks PapaDisco was actually just checking out some vrbo spots in Trastevere after wandering through the available listings - it looks close to everything without being too touristy like you said. I'll check out that hotel too - thanks.
