jkljkl Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Boxing! At the end of the day UFC just ends up as 2 dudes hugging on the ground. Yes Yes - I know their using great combos and techniques and takes years of skill and dedication to get that good - but it still is 2 dudes hugging on the ground. Thats a bit unfair since most of the boxing matches ive seen have their fair share of '2 dudes hugging' except upright instead of on the ground. I enjoy both sports but if pressed UFC I enjoy watching more. More action, only 3 or 5...five minute rounds, unbelievable technique, the thrill of a knockout or a submission, etc. I understand some peoples frustration with the '2 dudes hugging on the ground' but that doesnt happen all the time. I compare it to the many boxing matches ive seen where boxers take 4 to 6 rounds feeling out each other.
meatball41 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Both were great, but the first was the FOTY 2012 in my book. yeah I didnt see the 1st one but heard it was good too, Ill check it out. hope we get round three in 2014. Rios didnt look so good against pacquiao recently, he didnt match up to pac's speed very well. I dont have a true favorite but there should be some great matchups this year.
GreenPosiden Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I believe there was a rule against groin shots as well. Not at the beginning. There's a famous clip of Keith Hackney smashing Joe Son's groin like 5 times until he tapped out in UFC 4. Here's the youtube link: I've trained in martial arts all my life and I love watching the UFC. Sure it's not as real as real can get but in terms of a competitive pursuit of martial skill, it's the best we're gonna get. The Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu aspect of the game is amazing to watch. Most people think it's boring as hell but once you understand the intricacies of the art and what they're trying to do it's like a human chess match. The perfect combination of the physical and the cerebral. Love it.
Livo Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Definitely boxing for me. Although I did enjoy UFC back before they weight classes and rounds.
iamphilzone Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 UFC. Boxing is what my gramma would watch on Friday nights!
CaptainQuintero Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I grew up watching the Mike Tyson era, amazing TV. Obviously boxing today is just a shadow, a reflection of our culture? All the big personalities seem to have gone from all sports, it's all very sterilised and glossy. All mouth and no trousers.

Hey, PorLarry, not only that but the referee in the UFC matches will stop the combatants and stand them up to begin again on their feet if they stay or lay on the ground wrapped up too long! They all understand people are paying to see a professional fight - not a lay-on-the-ground-non-moving hug-a-thon!

Cap, you were but a glint in old man Quintero's eye when Tyson first won the title
CaptainQuintero Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Cap, you were but a glint in old man Quintero's eye when Tyson first won the title My old mans claim to fame is nearly knocking Seb Coe over on a country lane prior to him leaving to win gold lol, silly did was running in half light in the middle of the road
backslide Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 MMA all the way. I don't know anyone who even watches boxing any more.
Laxman Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Grew up a huge boxing fan but in the last 5 years have watched a handful of fights. Would rather watch UFC these days anytime over boxing.
Overproof Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 UFC, and wouldn't even bother to record the boxing. Haven't watched a bout in over 10 years.. You posted "great matchups"....can't remember one in 10 years. JMO though The past decade there has been some awesome match ups. Marcos Maidana vs Josesito Lopez, last year was a ripper! I could go one…..Boxing all day!
Upnorth3 Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Boxing all the way. FINALLY glad someone shut up Adrian Broner!!!!!!!!
bogglor Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Boxing all the way.FINALLY glad someone shut up Adrian Broner!!!!!!!! Amen to that.
Isotonic Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 I think any boxing tragic would weep at the foul and fetid place boxing has found itself in. UFC has gone on to become a global behemoth whilst the corruption and splinted councils/organizations/associations has ruined boxing. IMO boxing is a sport. Probably one of the only sports without a ball I actually call a sport. UFC is very skillful, very fit street fighting. UFC makes me want to have a shower after watching it. But it has major pluses. 1. It's organised by 1 central body 2.They tell you who you fight 3. You don't fight... your out This alone puts it streets ahead of boxing. If boxing ever gets it sh!t together it will dominate again. No UFC fighter is pulling in $40M a fight. Boxing produces them regularly. Reason... people in huge numbers pay to watch it. When Don King dies maybe it will resurrect itself
Blakes Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Have been a huge UFC / PRIDE fan.. although recently I don't find myself watching it as much, I just can't stand Dana White... They really need to get rid of that tosser... he's turning it into a soap opera.
Paneotto Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Less is more, therefore the sweet science of boxing.
