Am looking to buy a box of robustos and narrowed my choices down to these two. I have tried a few Epi #2;s and while i liked the roundness and mellowness of this cigar I found them a might mild. Still very enjoyable.

I have never smoked a Juan Lopez of any vitola and am wondering how the JL #2 compared to the Epi #2. Am assuming it is a fuller body, but is the roundness still there too? Thanks!

Huge vote for the JL2 here, easily my no.1 cigar from Cuba. I've just ordered a second box even though I've got 22 of the first box left. My only complaint is that they aren't bigger. There's definitely a reason everyone is praising them at the minute. Full bodied, amazing flavour profile and very smooth , even when very fresh.

Having ordered a box of each this year and smoked out of both....young, mind you....I would have to say Epi #2 by a hair. But you simply cannot make the wrong choice here.

The HDM Ep. 2 is definitely lighter in body than the JL2 but it's not by a landslide or anything. I would say the HDM Ep. 2 is light-medium and the JL2 is solidly medium.

Recent production JL2 has been fantastic in 2013. To me, JL2 is the "benchmark" Cuban taste without any frills or variance of notes. Cream, nutmeg, smooth and delicious.

You can't go wrong with recent production of either choice.

I totally agree with this statement.

I like the hoyo ok, but find the JL 2 Richer to my tastes. So it is a favorite of mine. It is usually Epi 2 as a daytime smoke for me and JL 2 After dinner, just as an example.

I smoked through a cab of jl2 a couple years ago and they were enjoyable. No standout flavors but just a good solid around rich smoke. The only epi 2s I've smoked were a bunch of 06s that were good but not crazy and all that age hadn't really done much good to them. I now have 2013 boxes of each on their way to me so I will revisit this thread after I've smoked a couple examples of each. I do remember the hoyos to have some creaminess about them.

X2.

I've had quite a few of both and they're both really good cigars. If i had to choose though I'd go with the JL2. The 2013s are outstanding.

I don't know the JL2, but the Epi2's I've had have been consistently spicy in a nice way except when I've gotten them too damp in the jungle and then they just taste like every other damp cigar :P But when they're on, which is mostly, it's like a mouthful of fresh black pepper! (In a good way :P )

I have smoked through a box of each from 2013 and but were spot on. Either way you can not lose as they are my two favorite reg production cigars I tried this year. Have boxes of both from 08 to 12. The 13's differently smoked ROTT better then any year maybe outside 08. If you have the funds grab one of each if not personally I would grab the Epi 2's.

Both very good at the moment. For me the JL edges out the Hoyo. Next purchase for me will be the JL 2.

both are good. go with your first choice knowing full well that your next purchase will be your second choice. this way you won't have to agonize too much over making a choice. dunno if this makes sense but it works for me.
