ChanceSchmerr Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Finished my Fluids Exam today. Pretty sure I didn't do well. Nonetheless, I smoked a Cohiba Double Corona LE 2003 to mark the occasion. It was sublime. ..... Decided to have one more cigar. ... picked up a Romeo No. 1 tubo. I normally run afoul of RyJ.... so many bad cigars.... Astoundedly.... I'm actually really enjoying it. WTF.....is RyJ back? And of all the cigars to do it. ... the #1 Tubo???? I'm in shock. Shock just seems too light a word. ...
markmurase Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Brave man to pick up a R&J No1 Tubo after a great Cohiba LE Double Corona. Glad the R&J did not disappoint.
winelover Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Glad to hear it. Back in 03/04 the RyJ tubo singles over here in the UK were not too shabby at all. Decent smoke, used.to like the no.2. A few year's back I had one which was a flavourless, power devoid (in all respects) waste of time, which put me off. However back in 03/04 I was a noob so I wonder if the cigars have been consistently poor/average and it is just my taste that has changed Good to hear it is back on though, and nice mentiin of the cohiba dc - how was that?
Maxismoke Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Same here, i think RyJ is WAY better in the 12-13 boxes than they were just 5 years ago. LOVE the Wide Churchills.
tmac77 Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 That is good news Chris. I have not been a fan of the RyJ line for many years but have been hearing good things about this brand in the last little while. Had a single of the new RyJ Deluxe LE 2013 last in Havana and was pleasantly surprised also as my expectations were quite low. might have to revisit this line.
liuzzi Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 I have been smoking quite a few recent production RyJ No1's lately, it's not bad for the price.
nikesupremedunk Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 The Churchill I had from blind tasting this year was a great smoke. Huge difference from my 11 sc's which are probably the worst cc I've had.
bassman Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Never had much luck with any tubos, but have enjoyed many oddball RyJs. Cazadores always a favorite, but also a fan of TPCs, Petite Princess, EX#3 and Cedro #1.
laficion Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Great to hear Chris, No opinon on the Tubos No. 1 RyJ , Never had one. Will have to pick some up.
PigFish Posted November 29, 2013 Posted November 29, 2013 Congrats on the exam Chris. You are a good man, brother! Did they teach you why water does not run up hill, or why witches float? -LOL -Ray
Scdalak Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 Coincidentally I smoked an 09 Duke today with a fellow BOTL.... Didn't disappoint, smooth creamy cherry, spot on. Been hoarding these a while, yet to be let down.... This coupled with the 07 Escudos are the best thing to come out of RJ in a decade, IMHO…
brutusthebuckeye Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Same here, i think RyJ is WAY better in the 12-13 boxes than they were just 5 years ago. LOVE the Wide Churchills. Wld like to hear more bout the Wide Churchill?....Havnt heard too many things about it...
nick17 Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 RyJ is where I started when it come to Cuban cigars and that was three or four years ago so it seems like they are doing something right
winelover Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Any news on the '12 or '13 RyJ Churchills in the tubed 10 count boxes?
garbandz Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 Have some late '12 tubos, from a 15 ct box.Rich prelight aroma, smooth colorado wrappers, well made and solid. The sticks have great flavors and classic aromas,a bit uneven in presentation and depth due to youth. I have had many boxes of other '08 to '11 RyJ products, all of which have presented the same way when young, all of which have shown remarkable finesse after a year or two. I fully expect the Churchill to need 4 years or more to begin to develop its real character.
Skitalets Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 RyJ have been very underrated the past few years. I've had good SCs, good Churchills, and even a great Tubo No. 1 in Saigon two years ago.
