Pixa Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I just picked up a few Montecristo sticks and the box from a local shop. The box also has an eleven digit code and I'm leaning toward bogus. Please let me know what you think. easy fakes wrong seal type even for the date stamp on the bottom. where are you located if it was a local shop
CountingCristos Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Thanks for the replies. I would rather not post my location if that is ok. 1
CountingCristos Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Here are the sticks they smoke ok so I'm not totally bummed. After looking at the cigars next to each other the bands are two different colors from the same box of "2006's" How does one go about dealing with this sort of thing? Do I confront the shop owner or just let it go? It's a small town shop and I like the owner he seems cool I don't think he would intentionally burn customers.
Pixa Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 All depends on your country really all some places they know fine well they are selling fakes but dont care. Other countrys with high taxes it all depends on what price they are selling them for if cheaper than the market rate them might think they are doing there customers a favour if the normal market price they are just out to make money so I would confront them and get ,my money back.
Hiroshiro Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 If you live in a country with Legal Sale I would contact Habanos SA and let them know what is going on
Skyfall Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Habanos make a great smoke. At this point it's just not worth the headaches for me. Too many counterfeits, too many experts. It's just insanity. I live in south florida. If I lived in another country that would be fine, but here...........just too many things to look out for. It makes smoking them a headache. ............and doesn't that defeat the purpose. I don't quiet understand, can you elaborate more on what your post was meant to convey please. I'm curious.
CountingCristos Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Thank you all for the replies, could I get a pic or two of some real boxes and the seals? Thanks

Agree, it takes some knowledge and proper avenues to ensure authenticity. Plenty of good links here that will help you out. http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.aspx?brand=Montecristo#108_Edici|on_Limitada http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/info-packaging.aspx http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=113702 http://www.friendsofhabanos.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=53384
AbuAmelia Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I often wondered if counterfeiters are on this site just picking the experts brain for info. Just sayin.
sheppsea Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 I often wondered if counterfeiters are on this site just picking the experts brain for info. Just sayin. I don't think there is anything here which isn't widely available, including on Habanos website, so I wouldn't worry about posting ways to check authenticity on a forum - I'm sure the fakers would much rather everyone live in ignorance and not know how to check 1
