Fav Cricket Moment

Recommended Posts

With the cricket perhaps being a fizzer...let's hope not...maybe it's time to revel in the past. It would be interesting to hear what people's favourite cricket moment would be. Funny, great, whatever...

I love D K Lillee in the 1981 Boxing Day test bowling Viv Richards with the last ball of the day.

I can't quite remember properly but I think it was Gundappa Vishwanath (excuse spelling) who took to swaying out of the way of bouncers instead of ducking in the tour of Australia and Lennie Pascoe bowled a bouncer that just kept on following him and it clocked him on the chin. I still remember seeing it on the TV and laughing my head off as a nasty little kid.

Boxing Day 2006.

Peanut sitting next to me spills his beer on my feet (fortunately wearing thongs - flip flops that is!). I look down...

Shane Warne takes his 700th test wicket tantrum.gif

in a sort of reverse effort of that, years ago at the sydney cricket ground when greg chappell took the catch to give him the world record number of test catches.

just before it, one of my mates starts telling us about another mate's famous scream. yes, odd as it sounds.

it was a slow morning, a very quiet crowd, so my mate (we were in the outer) lets fly with this blood-curdling yell. by chance, as the bowler reaches the crease. nick! chappell had the record. and the entire outer crowd put it down to my mate's yell, putting off the batsman.

we had people buying us drinks for hours. great fun.

When my dad took me to day 2 of the Centenary Test at the MCG in 1977. I was only 8, and a lot has happened since then, but i still clearly remember a few things like:

1. I didn't have a hat (my mum obviously didnt dress me that day) so the guy in front of us lent me his hat for the game. It was your classic light blue terry towelling version. My dad was very thankful he had avoided a few questions about me being sunburnt when we got home.

2. That same guy and his mates brought an esky in to the ground. Back in those days you were allowed. It was enormous. My dad still laughs when he thinks of the guy lifting the lid and us looking inside, and it looked like he'd fit at least two slabs of VB in it.

3. Lillee taking 6 for 26 to get rid of the Poms for 95. Maxie walker took the other 4 wickets. What i remember is the frequency of having to stand up to cheer a wicket. I guess their innings only lasted 30 odd overs (8 ball overs back then) so it was finished pretty quickly.
