I wondered why a work mate suddenly started wearing earrings.

He is normally a conservative guy, and I was curious about his sudden change in "fashion sense".

I walked up to him and said, "I didn't know you were into earrings."

"Don't make such a big deal of it, it's only an earring,like only one" he replied sheepishly.

I went silent for a few minutes, but then curiosity got the better of me and I asked, "So, how long have you been wearing one?"

"Ever since my wife found it in my car."
