Ryan Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 I got one of these at the festival last February and decided to light it up last night, given the news of their release. I weighed it first, out of interest. At 10 grammes, it's 2/3 the weight of the No. 2. It's about 30 mm shorter than the Monte 2, 5 mm shorter than the Partagas P1. Very nice wrapper feel. oily and smooth. I don't cut much off piramides but this had a very easy draw, a little too easy. I've had this in a singles humidor for months at 62 - 65 %RH On lighting it was very harsh. Lots of ammonia. Even for a young cigar like this, it's the most ammonia on the nose I've had from any new cigar I can remember. Really fierce. After about an inch it settled down a bit. Now I could get some flavour, some vanilla and pleasant sourness I sometimes like in a cigar. The thing about this size, given it's ring gauge and length, after about 1 inch I feel it's coming to an end and I start thinking about having another cigar. Could be a marketing plan! That said, the second half smoked quite a bit slower and it took me about 70 minutes altogether, I let it go out once, my fault, not the cigar. It burnt very well, I don't think I had to touch it up at all. Overall impression. At the moment, this one at least, far too young. It needed at least another year. Hard to get flavour through the ammonia, and I enjoy fresh cigars. While I like aged cigars too, I'm not the kind who needs 5 years of age on a cigar before I light it. They might have potential, it's hard to tell. I'm not sure what happened this when the best Monte 2s I've had have been fresh (2012) ones. Comparing to a Monte 2 Brian liked it. That might say something..
winelover Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Many thanks for sharing your experience Ryan. G
Hafner32 Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Thanks for the review. I think the pricepoint will determine if I grab a box to lay down or not. Great pic with Brian as well!
laficion Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 May-be It reminded Brain of something he knows .
oliverdst Posted October 18, 2013 Posted October 18, 2013 Dogs, how perfect can they be?? About the cigar I thought they somehow "prepare" some sticks/boxes to these events so people who are there can say very good things about them. I think I am wrong.
frenchkiwi Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Handy review. I like the look of the format. I wonder if they've ramped up the blend relative to Monte2 as is often the case in the smaller vitolas ?
GoJohnnyGo Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Thanks for the review. I've been eager to hear anything about these. It does sound like yours was "sick".
Habanos2000 Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Personally, I don't understand the point of a mini #2? Is it lack of creativity on Habanos part? I'd much prefer to see an old "retired" cigar be reintroduced than just taking a current vitola and knocking an inch or so off the end.
Philprop Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 I must say, the wrapper on the petit looks very nice. I'd like to try one, but I would also like to try a regular #2 as well, hahaha, but nice review.

I completely agree, So many legendary tried and tested cigars that are no longer with us... x2 I'd love to see a Monte especial #3 Hell yeah!!

Ryan Posted October 24, 2013 Author Posted October 24, 2013 Looks like you have a great best friend. 90% of the time he's a pain in the ar$e but he makes up for it the rest of the time!
Firebender Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 Wow.. first time I see this new band. Better get use to it. Thanks for the review. I think I will wait a little on these.. Besides I have been very much enjoying 2012-2013 No. 3s and 4s recently.
fba Posted October 30, 2013 Posted October 30, 2013 I smoked this cigare, and I found it was a good idea, the same way I enjoy the ERDM Petit Campania. I prefer this kind of module to short robustos for example. It is the same as N°2 in terms of flavor, but I had the impressions that the size gave it more 'kick'. Overall, I had a very good time with it. 1
