Drguano Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 So, as promised, a brief synopsis of the Flor de Cano Gran Cano as enjoyed at the H and F Cigar Party earlier tonight on the HQS Wellington. It is a nice mild cigar that tasted well with Moët Champagne, even better with Dalmore Cigar Malt and best of all with Hine Cognac. Beyond that I cannot offer much as my taste buds were conflicted be these little hamburgers and tiny cones of fish and chips brought round by lovely Eastern Europe waitresses in white naval outfits. Perhaps tomorrow I will have a more coherent view to share but for now I can say I found it to be a pleasant smoke.
Lotusguy Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Would love to hear how these compare with the Short Robusto RE which I LOVE!
Larsy Posted October 15, 2013 Posted October 15, 2013 Very excited about these! Pretty good price points too
Marker Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Translation: He was half drunk, or mostly drunk and staring at the waitresses.
El Presidente Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 He was half drunk, or mostly drunk and staring at the waitresses. I see nothing wrong with that plan ........
Marker Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 I see nothing wrong with that plan ........ You obviously missed my jealousy inflection in that comment.
Dimmers Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Any self respecting pirate would be proud to attend that event, nice one
Ryan Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Looking good DrGuano! Looks fairly packed, anybody interesting at it?
Drguano Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Yes, Simon Chase, I seem to recall, gave a nice talk about the history of the packaging. Sean Croley enjoyed being heckled while making introductions. Eduard Shahakian was there. There was a bit of skulduggery afoot. It was Ajay Patel's birthday (50th was announced but he says 49) and certain brothers in the industry hatched a plot to throw him overboard in honor of some nautical tradition. Had the drink run out, they might have been successful.
Ryan Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Great stuff, thanks for that. David's looking happy. Would you buy a box of the cigars based on the sampling?
Drguano Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 I would want to smoke the second one in order to firm up my opinion before committing to a box. I tend to like a richer smoke as my palate has been toughened by strong drink and black powder. I lean toward the Monte 520, Upmann Royal Robusto end of the spectrum. This would be a good morning or afternoon smoke. I was very curious about the opinions of others last night and the general response was "it is a mild smoke."
Ryan Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Thanks for that, I'm driving over to London next week, so looking forward to trying one. It'll be a month or two before they're available here.
SteveGriff Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Nice reports and pics. I'm sure I'll end up buying a handful of these boyos.
Drguano Posted October 16, 2013 Author Posted October 16, 2013 Thanks for that, I'm driving over to London next week, so looking forward to trying one. It'll be a month or two before they're available here. Driving to London? From Dublin?
Ryan Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Driving to London? From Dublin? Nice, not what I'm doing though. It's the ferry for me. Not my prefered mode of travel, sharing a boat to Wales with a load of drunks too cheap to buy a 30 euro Ryanair ticket, but I need a car this time.
