geosmoke Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 I just read this on another vendor's website: "Habanos S.A. price changes for 2013 will come into effect toward the end of September." Less than a year from the last price increase! Is this true, or just some selling strategy?
UpInSmoak Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 It's not if it happens, more so when. Annual Increases have been pretty consistent over the past several years. I'm not surprised you read that as unfortunate as it is.
MrGinger Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Annual increases have been consistent? There has only been one or two increases in the past decade if not longer as far as I know... I was thinking the same thing.
geosmoke Posted September 22, 2013 Author Posted September 22, 2013 +1 I paid the same price in Cuba for Trini Reyes in Summer '08 and early '10.
geosmoke Posted September 22, 2013 Author Posted September 22, 2013 If this is true, all I can hope right now is not seeing the same hike 15%-30% as the last one.
CaptainQuintero Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 I remember Cuba prices going up last year/start of this year but I don't recall anything across the board for a long time?
UpInSmoak Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Haha....I guess I'm stating misinformation. I thought I've seen price increases twice in the past 2 yrs, appears im wrong. my memory must be foggy. I'm happy to believe Shlomo regarding only 1 or 2 increases in the past decade. I optimistically stand corrected!
brazilstogie Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 my vendor has stated hike of 8% more or less across the board.
Smallclub Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Internet vendors have raised their prices much more often than HSA or the regional distributors these last years…
cigarsdelcuba Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 i work in the industry and i can say that HSA has raised their prices every year for as long as i can remember every april. the price increase usually does not hit any vendors/distributors/wholesalers till Q4 of each year when stocks begin to deplete after the summer high season and they have to re order from HSA and end up paying the new price which is passed on to the end user.
SCgarman Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Basically, it looks like the vendors are the ones that have continually raised their prices over the last few years. Cannot comment regarding distributor pricing or HSA pricing. All I know is I am shelling out more money for the same box of cigars now than the last couple of years.
jimbo1 Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 well if true, it sucks.....guess petit coronas will be my new go to.......such is life.
Habano Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 The Euro is certainly not helping the US Dollar.
Smallclub Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Given all the money most of us spend on habanos, I guess we all "work for the industry"
oliverdst Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Given all the money most of us spend on habanos, I guess we all "work for the industry" LOL. Accomplices.
cigarsdelcuba Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 I work for an official habanos distributor and I can state for a fact that we receive price increases on an annual basis every April from Habanos. Every year it varies from anywhere from 3% to as high as 13% on some of the tubos when the material got alot more expensive. The online retailers have huge margin I know based on the prices we buy from Cuba vs what they are selling at and they can afford at most times to absorb the annual price increases...
bassman Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Indeed, prices go up every year. Doesn't matter if the increase originates with Habanos or the vendor. We're still paying more. Any absolutely nothing wrong with sticking with petite coronas. Want a bigger cigar? Smoke two.
