Habanos2000 Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Damn. I was soooo sure of my guess too. This cigar reminded me immediately of the QdO regional robusto that I sampled last year. But then again I've fallen out of love with RyJ many moons ago, I wouldn't remember how they taste. Congrats to those with much better tasting abilities!
sabourin Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 great exercise - thought it was too light to be R&J so went for Imperiales congrats to those who got it right only gets tougher from here me thinks!
amosnaim Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I was debating between the R&J and the Bolivar corona gigantes. I was leaning towards the R&J, and what led me to the final decision was that iy lacked the richness that i would have expected from the Bolivar. Anyway, i love participating in this contest. Cheers all
Jeremy Festa Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Because of the dried fruit and the floral perfume I was tossing up between the HDM and RyJ. Besides the cedar notes, it was actually the lack of any creaminess that took me away from HDM. Even though the stick didn't look like the "typical" red RyJ, I basically took a lucky guess. Retrospectively, I find it quite amazing how the final third of that Churchill changed so significantly. It was an elegant smoke.

Like this post and a few others, I was also tossing up between Boli and RyJ, finally settling on RyJ.
Surucipe Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Congrats to all who got it right! I ruled out the RyJ Churchill because of the wrapper which didn't have that reddish colour. It also didn't taste anything like that horrible RyJ Churchill which I had earlier this year. Just goes to show what a difficult (but fun) game this is.
bigfunkyg Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Wow, I finally got one! The biggest indicator was cherry for me. The example I had was all cherry from the second third onwards and got slightly stronger in body. Looking forward to smoking #2 next week on vacation!
jpastin Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I'm stoked, I was hoping to get one right out of the whole batch!
CanuckSARTech Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 While I did taste some RyJ in that cigar it wasn't enough to convince me. I went with the Bolivar which I don't smoke but it sure had a lot of Boli characteristics. Live and learn I guess. Congrats to those who got this one right. Agreed wholeheartedly. I had no cherry aspects and no reddish wrapper. I knew a few were knocked out of contention (like the Sir Winnie) due to the noticable box press. But nothing in this cigar even leaned toward RyJ for me, especially the lack of any evidence from a second band. No cherry or sweet floral hints. They are so close in profile mate that it is an easy one to miss (same body). I smoked mine last week and the slight flower nature and sweetness gave it away (in mine anyway). Of course blind I may have gone for the BCG. Makes me feel a wee bit better too then. LOL.
CanuckSARTech Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 And yes, agreed with others - congrats to those who nailed the first pick. Kudos on a job well done, and on to Cigar Number 2 then!!!!
Hohenthal Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Reminds me of last year's blind tasting - most of us thought the R&J PC was Bolivar PC...
Wil Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Reminds me of last year's blind tasting - most of us thought the R&J PC was Bolivar PC... I really enjoyed that cigar. It showed what a great learning experience the blind tastings are - it shattered my preconceptions! I picked Bolivar Corona Gigantes too. I really thought I had nailed it!
