warren516 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I'm looking for recommendations for a good smoke to share with my close friends after the wedding rehersal dinner. These would be my long time friends (40 years) and are coming from out of town. Some of them smoke the occasional cigar while others smoke a little more often. Not looking to break the bank with 1966's or 520's or Behike's but I am looking for something that everyone might enjoy. Something medium bodied would be great. Any recommendations would be welcome - looking at robusto to churchill size. I do have a box of 520's coming that I'm sharing with a select few after lunch on the big day.
Hafner32 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I think a RASS would be great. The fresh ones are smoking great or some with a little age would work as well. Also recent production RyJ Short or Wide churchills might not be a bad choice if looking for something more mild/medium.
dangolf18 Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Bolivar CE 50 cab. Punch Punch 50 cab. RyJ No.2 tubos for the non smokers.
Troels Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Punch punch or hoyo epicure nr2 is what I plan to recruit new smokers with - my thoughts being they are mild but has some complexity and some of that cuban twang
nikesupremedunk Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 Question is, are you digging these out of your humi? Or are you planning to order a box just for the occasion? If you are going for a box, I would get something that comes in a 10 pack. I would think a monte 2 would be a good choice since it's one of the most iconic cuban cigars and won't break bank. Plus everyone knows montecristo, so they will be impressed. If you want robustos, maybe a 10 ct box of PSD4 or short churchills will be nice as well and will be a treat for the occasional smokers. Most importantly, congrats, and enjoy!!
Kruz Posted July 3, 2013 Posted July 3, 2013 I recently had to decide what to bring for my wedding and here are the stand out suggestions I got when I asked on another forum: 1. Consider the amount of time you want the smoke to be for. Do you have enough time for a churchill and will it be OK for a large group to seperate from everyone else for the smoke? For me this was an issue so I purchased some smaller Trinidads. 2. Maybe consider bring two choices of cigars. For the more experienced guys bring something with a little more cost and flavour. For the newbies maybe bring something cheaper and lighter. That way you don't have guys ashing a nice expensive cigar after 5 minutes. 3. Timing of purchase. If you're going to order online they will need time for shipping and to rest in a humidor.
Smooth Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 I brought out Connie #1's for the same event back in 2010. Even those not smoking loved the aroma. It's a perfect smoke for both regular cigar people and novices alike. Advice: dont take a cutter etc... Teach people how to Cuban cut the cap to avoid issues with people cutting just below the band... :/

And Thank you for the congrats........it's a our first weddings for each of us. Plus big birthday milestones for each of us. 2 days before for her (40) and 2 days after (50) for me.

This will be after the dinner and everyone has gone their seperate ways, plus we are all in our mid-upper 40's. I might let the experienced smokes take their pick from my humidor and anyone who doesn't smoke regularly will get a light smoke. The Trinidades I have in the humidor too......so many cigar choices, so little time to smoke them.
Dimmers Posted July 4, 2013 Posted July 4, 2013 Depending on experience of the group, they will probably get a bigger kick out of a well known marca rather than something lesser known. If budget permits then why not go the "flagship", Id suggest something from the Siglo line (and if so, also go the tubos as keepsakes for afterwards), or maybe Coros. EDIT - also congrats on the upcoming wedding!
