Heh, I'm glad to see Radiohead gets mentioned. I'm listening to The Bends right now.

The Bends and OK Computer are as good as it gets. This is what Pink Floyd could have sounded like if they would of had an operatic talent singing for them. Speaking of which, I need to break Animals out.

Ahhh...finally, someone else who understands. The confused looks I would get when I compare early Radiohead to Syd Barrett era Floyd.

Oh yeah, you're all over it brother. I must be on my 5th beer cause I've got Trace by Son Volt on now. Damn, Strangers Almanac by Whiskey Town can't be far behind.

Lord help us.

Pet Sounds?? Monumental for many reasons. The guys ( and one gal ) in the studio sit down and are handed charts. After hearing take one, you realize that all of this came out of one very smart guy's head. This wasn't an album that morphed into shape because a bunch of guys were jamming and songs took a workable form, it was created from Brian Wilson's vision. He heard the songs in his head, wrote it all out on paper and then assembled the right musicians to play it.

The best Rush album is Hemispheres. Someday this will be generally understood.

I don't even like Rush...but this is one of the greatest statements I have ever read!

I have a general understanding that Hemispheres is the best Rush album...

Right on...I remember being stunned at learning that the backing tracks were usually recorded at Western Studios No.3, a very small studio where up to 20 musicians would cram into a small room while they'd spent most of a three hour session getting their microphones adjusted as they were all recorded together live. When Brian, who'd produce these sessions from the recording booth was happy, then they'd do 5 to 10 takes at the end.

It would be unthinkable to record professionally this way today...but there you go, Pet Sounds. It's why it's so great!

Physical Graffiti. The music is a monument of hard rock with the musicians at maximum torque.

It took me a good six or seven listens to get into, but this album grows on me every time I listen to it. It goes to show that Led Zeppelin had some quality out-take tracks that still sounded fresh when they were put onto this album.

Without looking it up, I defy anyone to guess the 8 songs that were recorded at Headley Grange ( a former poorhouse in Hampshire, England where many bands recorded in the 70's) and the 7 songs that were leftovers from Led Zeppelin I to Houses of the Holy).

Here's a link to all 50 albums...some great choices. I guess I wouldn't choose Astral Weeks by Van Morrison at No.1, but then again I agree with a lot of the other choices.

It's really hard to remove personal bias when it comes to searching for the best albums.

If you had asked me a few months ago, I might've actually chosen "Who's Next" as the top album but now, I'm not so sure. One thing I am certain of is my sadness that there is no Jethro Tull in the top 50. I think they've fallen quite a bit ever since they won the title of "Best Metal Album of the Year".

Some good, albeit somewhat predictable, inclusions in the list. But a top 50 albums list without "Never Mind The Bollocks"? Really??

Tattoo you

Song Remains the same

Eat a peach

Rocka-Rolla

Live bullet

This is my current top 5. They're always changing depending on mood. I don't see PE or Eminem as rock n roll. Know one plays any traditional instruments in these groups.

Oh and btw, Kayne and Beyonce and all the minions that strive to emulate them are singlehandedly ruining music for today's youth!

Sgt Pepper's...The White Album...c'mon now...?!?!

Yes...and no Rubber Soul. And if you are into Dylan what about Highway 61 Revisited, Blonde on Blonde and Blood on the Tracks?

I guess this list is probably a 'personal favourites' poll rather than an objective, critical all-time best like Rolling Stone's Top 500 Albums list.

A big yes to Rush 2112. Add some Supertramp, Breakfast in America. Maybe some AC/DC Back in Black for our Ausi friends. Maybe some ABBA for our Norwegian friends. Wait what am I saying....No ABBA dammit! No, no, no, voted of the island.

later.

Can't go past Surfer Rosa although Doolittle is close behind.

As of October 2014, I've seen the Pixies 25 times. I've traveled around the world to see them. #25 was at the Hollywood Bowl.

Doolittle is my second favorite album of all time (A Love Supreme is # 1).

Caribou is my favorite Pixies song... So amazing live!!!

Joey Santiago lives in my neighborhood, though I've never had the guts to tell him "hey Joey, you are a golden God!"

The office here can tell my mood from the music I drive in on.

I have a $46K Jeep JK Diesel and a $5k Focal stereo system. Makes no sense.....

Sounds awesome! I LOVE my Jeep JK!

Nothing like no doors, no top, great music, great cigar and being out where others cannot go. And my daughter loves it too!
