28-50 is my ideal range, love robustos and skinnies, odd occasion is 52 and very rare occasion is 54 but I can't really stand anything bigger than robusto...i've got a cohiba sublime and some phoenicios and edmundo dantes i just can't get around to smoking because I hate the size

and I don't purchase anything larger than 50 rg though I did buy a box of bhk52s in 2010 but I'll probably sell those anyway

I prefer larger ring gauge cigars (46-56 rg) as they burn slower and cooler.

Really like the 46 ring guage cigars but generally smoke 50-52 ring guage robustos because 1 hour is usually all the time I can steal from the family to have a cigar. I had tried some really large ring guages, 60, etc and find that they are just too big, on the contrary I do enjoy a good lancero so my preferences are all over the map. I think if I like the cigar and the flavor is spot on, I find that I worry less about what the ring guage is.

I will smoke anything from 38 up to about 56. Anything bigger than 56 is a bit crazy imo. My go to size is definitely the Robusto, as it seems to be right in that sweet spot for me.

is anyone aggregating this feedback? kind of like +1 for each ring gauge from 28 to 60 to see what the distribution looks like? turn it into a fancy column chart that someone like Rob could take on a trip to Cuba? or is any influence there too wishful thinking? you could have two charts... "what I prefer" versus "what I am willing to smoke for a good cigar"? seems most answers here are "I like [40] to [48], but will go up to [56] if the cigar is good".

I'm seeing an interesting pattern in this discussion, one that (idiodically) hadn't occurred to me.

When you call larger ring gauge cigars "jawbreakers", do you mean to say that you hold the cigar in your mouth?

I see this a lot in photos, but in all my years I haven't met anyone who smokes their cigars this way normally.

Perhaps a question for another thread, "How many B/SOTLS hold their cigar in their mouths?"

Personally, when faced with a thick cigar, I just punch the end and get on with it.

At least with a punch, you don't have to chomp on the cigar. I don't really like anything over 50 RPG, but I have smoked and enjoyed some 52-54 RPG cigars like the Siglo VI and a select few NCs that are worth it.

I don't know anyone personally who smokes 56 gauge cigars like a flute. It is pretty difficult to smoke a larger ring gauge cigar comfortably unless you are doing it like the former.

I smoke 6x60 all the time. Just got a box of Padron 7000 maduro 60's. Lovely smoke.

...but I have a fair share of sub 60 ring as well. A box of camacho corojo Churchill just entered my possession and I'm smoking one as I type this. That one is a 48,Iu believe, which is an ideal gauge.

Just received a box of partagas serie d no 4 and those are very nice at 50 if a bit short in length.

But yeah I love 60's.

I prefer 48-56 RG but will be enjoying the EL 58 release as soon as they are released...

As long as the cigar is excellent, I will smoke it.

I feel like 56 is max ring range for me my smoked a few My Uzi Weights a Ton by Drew Estates with were 60 ring gauge just to try em out
