WillGSX Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 So now that my wineador has been up and running for awhile, I have noticed a lot of humidity fluctuation between top and bottom levels as well as within the drawers. Figured I would give the fans a shot and try to do something a little different. Enjoy! I started with an empty box of PSD4 10s and drilled 8 holes for a small screw to go through. On the other end of the screws I would place an aluminum standoff. Then I ran longer screws through the fan mounts and into the other end of the standoffs. Just another angle here.... Here are both fans mounted. I cut the MOLEX connectors off, as well as the end of a universal multi-volt AC adapter and connected both the fans to the AC wires. I kept all the wires inside the PSD4 box to keep it looking clean. Ran the AC wire into the side of the box to be connected inside. Here is the mess to be contained by the box. And with the box lid reattached and closed... With power attached both fans operate. The AC adapter is 3v - 12v so by adjusting that I can effectively adjust the fan speed. At 3v they are very slow which I will try first to get some good mixing in the wineador. And here she is in her final resting place below the false bottom drawer. I'm confident that with some thrifty online shopping this entire project can be completed for around $20. I was bored and was looking for a project so I purchased everything from RadioShack and paid a bit more for the convenience of NOW. 2x 80mm LED Case Fans - $11.99 1x Universal AC Adapter w/voltage setting - $21.99 2x PCB Standoffs (4x in each) - $3.98 Grand Total - $37.96 + tax
Stanislaw Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Oh wow, thanks for sharing.... Now I have something to do..... Heheheheh
Ssmith114 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Very nice! I might have to try something like this if my oust fans can't do the job.. Thanks for sharing!
Phillys Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 That is very nice, will be ``borrowing`` the design for my coolidor.
asmith Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Does it play doof doof music as well on a Saturday night?
CdnLimitada Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 That is really cool. I'll look to copy that soon.
JPS72 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Nice work - also, nice Mojo Bass rod! I have a St. Croix spinning blank on my Cajun Custom Rod that I had built for me here locally a couple of years ago and really like it.

I use a Mojo for cranking, otherwise I'm a G-Loomis GLX man.

Cohiba Stevie Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Nice work, great use of an old PSD4 box... I have to ask though, those fans look huge for a wineador, my aristocrat would probably be the same size as most standard wineadors and I only use a 40mm fan for moving air. I would have though that even one of those fans would be sufficient for most humi setups. Anyways, great work.

I would have though that even one of those fans would be sufficient for most humi setups. Anyways, great work. They are pretty large. 80mm to be exact. The thing is, by running them at 3volts they run realllly slow. That's the neat part about the adapter...it effectively becomes a speed control.
Cohiba Stevie Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Ahh i understand... I would have thought it would have been hard to get a fan of that size with leds started with just 3 volts but it seems to be working a treat for you. Im thinking of swapping the fan in my aristocrat out for an led fan, so i know when its running, i swapped the original out for an ultra quiet one and it runs in complete silence so i would want an led fan to do the same. Any reccomendations?
srsMichael Posted May 11, 2013 Posted May 11, 2013 Does it play doof doof music as well on a Saturday night? - Is this doof doof music? I see a lot of younger Aussie bros loving this stuff. LOL
Laxman Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Well done, looks like I have a project for new weekend. Thanks for sharing.
rook Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 Your thread finally got me to pull the trigger on starting a wineador. I went with a VT-28TEDS (Vinotemp) I ordered it from HayNeedle. It is set to be delivered on Thursday. I didn't waste much time, on Saturday I ordered a couple of CPU fans from Amazon and thanks to my Amazon Prime membership those will be delivered today. Even though I don't have my wine cooler yet I am going to put together the fans tonight (cross your fingers). On my way home from work yesterday I managed to stop at RadioShack and pick up a couple of boxes of the same standoffs you used here. Im not entirely sure I am going to need both fans, but I'll see when they get here. I'll try and post a couple of photos of the finished result. I'm not entirely sure what I am going to mount them to since I do not have a PSD4 box.
