Colt45 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 As long as the company, food, drink and cigars are good - then that sounds like a hell of a time The pleasure was all yours
AndrewNR Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I used to work at a place that put on an annual long lunch, Generally served around 120 people alfresco. Themed slow food, 6-8 courses 3-5 hours. Was a once a year thing, Was pretty cool to be involved in. I have a couple close friends who I occasionally fill the long lunch niche with.. Generally a simple lunch developing through nibblies and cheeses to a more hearty dinner with drinks and such. Years ago the ****** would be involved but since I got my first box of cubans that thing hasnt been out of the box.. maybe I should revisit it soon.
El Presidente Posted April 19, 2013 Author Posted April 19, 2013 I can gauge a how good a long lunch is by how long it takes me to type a post the next day. ......this one was 10 minutes. ....

socapots Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 So can we expect a "long lunch sale" tonight Di? Have a nice one Rob! Lol. First thing I thought after reading the post as well.
Rushman Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 I havent had one of "those" long lunches in quite a while. I do have a cool story of a long breakfast though. I was working in Houston, and several of my best mates worked for me. It wasnt that odd that on the occasional day we would head out and grab breakfast. This particular day, we headed out in my ride, a larger than life Navigator. After a bit heading west on 290 out of Houston, one of my mates asked me where we were headed - I replied "Austin". Austin is maybe 1.5 hours from Houston. We went to a long time breakfast haunt of mine "Juan in a Million". If you havent been there, put it on your bucket list - also youtube the Man vs Food episode from there, Im asure its on youtube. We had breakfast. A big one. I seem to remember we went to my other fave Ausitn place Curra's for not really luck, but drinks. We had drinks on 6th street as well. I didnt drive home, but we got back to the office around 5pm.....just in time to shut down and go home! Of course there was also the time we all piled into Vinnys car heading out to lunch. As often mates will do, nobody could make a decision on where to go. It wasnt long before we were half way to College Station. So we went to the Dixie Chicken for drinks and to see my old carvings on the wall, and then on to Ausitn as well if memory serves. Enjoy your lunch Pres!
asmith Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Hey Di here's an idea. Next time tell him to stay here and do some work and we will go out for a long lunch.
ironchefscott Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 I think last time I took a long lunch was 10 years ago. Right now I am a caregiver for adults with developmental disabilities(also with severe medical issues) So I don't get to leave for lunch, that would actually be illegal for me to leave. But don't get me wrong I dream of living for a stick or three and a glass of scotch on a rough day. Oh career change, come soon.
riazp Posted April 20, 2013 Posted April 20, 2013 It technically was not a lunch, but a after work dinner started at 4:30pm...I was in bed at 3:30 am...i'm useless today

Kudos to you my friend, that is a hard job!
madandana Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 In the 70s my dad worked for the news paper in MPLS.Some how his bosses always seemed to be alcoholics. They'd go out for a burger and his boss would order a picture of beer..................He'd stumble in the house around 8 PM and my mom would have his suitcase sitting by the door. He told me years later it was kind of hard to say no when your boss tells you to cancel your afternoon appointments and have another drink. Oh, mom and dad are still happily married and still enjoying happy hour.
LGC Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 In the US, companies tend to have 30 min or 1hr lunch policies. I used to travel about 90%, and never took a long lunch. I recently started working for a small, Bulgarian company. Whenever we have a birthday, potluck, etc... there is always plenty of alcohol available. Guys are welcome to have beer or wine during lunch. It was strange for me at first; but I have been able to adapt The only thing missing is being able to smoke at the desk LOL
Lotusguy Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 My company has a very strict policy about drinking during work hours and a complete ban on alcohol at the workplace. I'd be fired and honestly, I wouldn't blame them. There is plenty of time and opportunity to booze it up after work.
