gr8tdanz Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Most of you know that I won this last year. The timing couldn't have been better. Just the week before I had already started on my new path. I'm not posting to brag, but to offer encouragement. After the contest ended, I continued to lose and peaked out at 120 lbs (54.4 kg) of total loss after 10 months. I have kept it off so far and don't plan to ever go back. It can be done! Just find a method that works for you and stick with it! Now go win those cigars! I can tell you, free ones taste really good!
dangolf18 Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 Way to go. Thanks for the encouragement. This contest has actually given me the motivation and push to stick to my weight loss plan. I was 150-160ish in high school being around 5'10". Gained a lot in college and topped out in January right before the contest at 205lbs. Weighed myself yesterday and I'm down to 175lbs. I feel so much better and get a lot more attention from the ladies which is a plus . Going to try my best to continue.
gr8tdanz Posted April 15, 2013 Author Posted April 15, 2013 Great work dangolf18! I know my loss hasn't hurt anything with the opposite sex! Keep it up!
CanuckSARTech Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 HOLY FREAKIN' CRAPOLA!!!!! Man, way to go! A huge congrats and kudos on the continuing efforts dude! That's just awesome. Those pictures speak a 1000 words. It's an amazing difference. Very very cool. Good for you - a damn fine effort to be proud of.
finecigar Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Wow! Incredible work and effort you must have gone through. Congratulations! You look a completely different man and you give me inspiration to continue more weight loss and get back to the guy I used to be! I give you a major high five man, keep up the good work!
Reevzy Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I've gotta congratulate you for starters, it can be so stupidly hard to lose weight. I'm sitting in the waiting room at the doctors at the moment to find out if there is something else at play here cause in three months I've lost three kilos and I'm working pretty damn hard for it too, I don't know what is going on and it's really disheartening, makes me think what's the point for all the hard work? I'll keep at it. Nice Telle by the way
Ryan Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 Well done! 54 kg in 10 months is huge! I hope you're keeping an eye on your health. I've lost about 25 kg in the last 2 years and I thought I was doing well. I've gone from about 108 (240 lbs) to about 83 (183 lbs) Still about 5 kg to go. I lost about 10 lbs in 10 days in Cuba 2 years ago, probably a very unhealthy way of doing it, with a diet consisting mostly of rum, but decided to keep going.
gr8tdanz Posted April 17, 2013 Author Posted April 17, 2013 Thanks everyone. It's been a fun ride. You guys have shown some great results, keep it up. @Ryan, I recently had some blood work done and all my levels are spot on. I eat right and work out 5 days a week. Exercise is key in my opinion. Rum may not be the healthiest, but at least it got you kick started!! Keep up the good work, you'll get there. @Reevzy, Thanks. That Tele's my baby!
sighuber Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I was second in the fat bastard contest last year. For me the keys to weight loss were targeting 5+ hours per week for excercise (I did have to work up to this) and tracking my calorie intake using the iphone app called My Fitness Pal. I was very diligent in my tracking. I found that using the app taught me which foods and drinks were calorie inefficient and it also helped to hold myself accountable for staying within the calorie limits. I also found the competitive aspect of doing it as part of the forum challenge helped keep me on task. When you hit a plateu, change things up a bit with diet, calorie count, different excercise program, etc. The plateus were very frustrating but they were part of the process, at least for me. You must set weight loss as a high priority goal and stay focused on it. Its not easy, especially when the hunger pangs hit in the evening and you are already at your daily calorie limit! I've remained conscious of these lessons and I've kept my weight off despite backing off some on the excercise. Good luck to everybody!

It does take discipline, but for me, once I saw the results I was hooked. I set goals and decided on "prizes" for myself when I reached them. Eating right and working out has just become what I do now. I remember you were hot on my tail! It was VERY close at the end. The competition definitely made it more fun.

dangolf18 Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Don't mean to hijack this thread, but my friend brought this over tonight. Can't resist posting it.
