persianpirate Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Alright guys, I might be in a bit of denial here. Just got a box in from a respected source. A box I've been after for a while, a box I was losing hope of ever getting my hands on. Everything looks perfect, except for a small hole in one of the sticks. Is this 100% a beetle hole, or does it look more like it could be an imperfection? Box was sealed, so the sticks weren't inspected before shipping. A bummer either way, but hoping for the lesser of two evils. Thanks for your input.
stargazer14 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Imperfection. Tho beetle hole is not exactly perfect on a cigar either.
Orion21 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Beetle holes are round, but if you're worried freeze them.
Colt45 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 It looks like an imperfection to me as well - I've had many cigars with the same. Also, as the holes are typically caused by the beetle making it's way out of the cigar, you might also see a bit of tobacco dust in the box.
MattW Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 I'd agree with it being an imperfection by the looks of things, I've had a couple sticks that looked like that!
jimmypa Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 my vote is also for................. imperfection!
oliverdst Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Every new box/cigar I receive rests for some weeks in a small humidor. I inspect the cigars in a daily basis looking for beetles. If the worst happens they are isolated from the other boxes and the damage can be controlled.
Squarehead Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 What the others said,Imperfection,I had a few of those.
finecigar Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 definitely an imperfection. I get these sometimes and worry myself. beetle holes are usually symmetrical
Trevor2118 Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Imperfection. I have had these before, but only one beetle hole (with dust). Unfortunately that was in a Cohiba Millennium Jar
persianpirate Posted March 28, 2013 Author Posted March 28, 2013 Thanks for all of the input everyone, greatly appreciate it!
Ophidion Posted March 29, 2013 Posted March 29, 2013 It's an imperfect beetle hole. "Cuban tobacco beetles being Cuban tobacco beetles"
