NMJoe Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 I saw this story on a science website, which shows the current snow cover in N. America, and it made me think about how lucky I am to live where snow does fall, but is generally gone within a day or two. Although my home is located at 6,000', I live in the high-desert so I get very little snow (although it can certainly get cold enough to support it December through March). For those of you in the northern hemisphere, when do you generally see the snow finally disappear for the summer? For those of you down south, when, if ever, do you see frozen precipitation (outside of hail)?
poorman Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Snow generally disappears in the spring. Unless you live in AK, then it disappears in the summer.
Phillys Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Well I have noticed that in Quebec, snow is either gone or about to be on April 1st, ok maybe 2 weeks before or after. I notice because I always BBQ on my birthday and it's pretty much a 50/50 chance that I will be grilling in snow.
Phillys Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Um....you know Toronto is not part of Quebec right? ROFL Well I lived in Montreal for 10 years, Hull for another 19 and just moved to Toronto last year. The only thing I really love about Toronto is the weather, well usually.
dvickery Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 still got 5 feet on the ground here (not home...in kearl lake right now). derrek
Rye Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Southern Alberta... All 4 seasons every month, all year long.
CaptainQuintero Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 been winter here from september, due for 2 more weeks of snow too, last year it didnt even warm up until july, for 2 weeks then it rained until sept, then froze up again! Global warming my arse! Global brass monkeys more like!
jrb5783 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 normally about now actually. The last few winters have been mild and snow was gone for good by early march. This year however is much colder considering we got 6 inch (15cm appox) of snow sunday I don't know when the snow and cold are going to go. My guess is about a week or two till I am steadily enjoying 50+ degree F days
mazolaman Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Pretty bad snow here at the mo, which is unusual for the UK at this time of year. There are a lot of stunned, cold looking new born lambs around. 8 to 15 ft drifts up in the hills, and much of the country, NI have had it bad too, power off... Theyve had to send out these vehicles to rescue folk who ventured out for 20 ciggis... I'm meant to be re-wiring someones house, but can't get there, as there is a truck lying across the road. Yes I know, some of you guys get snow every year and deal with it better....the thing is, we never know whether we'll gwt it or not, and sadly our country is only prepared for temperate rain! Well, we got it this year!
Lotusguy Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 What's this "Snow" thing you guys keep talking about?
vanbellc Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Snow seems to be hanging on here later than normal this year. I guess it's just making up for the warm March we had last year!
nonameno Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Hi Fellow FOHers', Last year was unusually warm in March, but typically, March is our snowiest month. We still have around 3 feet on the ground and midday temps hovering in the low to mid 30's. The snow should be gone maybe by early to mid April. Thanks, Curtiss
PigFish Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 This is why God gave us shelter... and Isla PigFish! Cheers folks, stay warm! -Piggy

Well, we got it this year! x2 it's caught all the sheep farmers here completely off guard, lots of reports in the pub of newborn lambs being found in the morning frozen solid to the ground sadly, the army has even come in at some farm to try to dig out stranded flocks

Where do you live?
Random Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 What do you mean 1m on the ground? it was something like 5-10 cm maximum of white stuff on sidewalks.
CanuckSARTech Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 What's this "Snow" thing you guys keep talking about? Something that you apparently moved away from with glee from "das fazerland"! LOL.
