ptrthgr8 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Back in August of last year I picked up a 50 cab of Lusis from El Prez (or was it Sven? Damn... too hard to remember all these names) and the box code is BOU JUN 11. Outstanding smokes right off the top and they're getting even better with age. I've smoked a dozen or so of them at this point and sorta regret not getting two cabs while I was at it. Would have been handy to keep one for long term storage to see how good they really get and then smoke the rest whenever I felt like it. Lusis are some of my favorites. I would definitely vote to give them another chance. Cheers, ~ Greg ~
dangolf18 Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Had a 50 cab TEB 08 (forget the month). Excellent smoke but not a powerhouse by any means.
El Presidente Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Hello Fellow FOHers', This is a very interesting thread on many levels, besides just how Lusitanias taste. First, I want to say to Guybrush, that even being a native English speaker, I still butcher the language and my typing skills and editing skills leave a lot to be desired, so that I can come off as a neanderthal (which is probably pretty close to true ). I know I appreciate all participants who share their enjoyment of cigars with us all. Now the cigar question here which has me very perplexed and even a little concerned, is that issue of cigars drying out and losing aroma and/or flavor. At what point does a cigar lose it's flavor or how dry must it become or how long resting in too low a humidity to impact its flavor? I thought I saw on one thread where the member said he kept his cigars at something like 50%. My concern has to do with winter humidity levels fall very low in the north country even though I have humidity beads and the gage reads 65%, the cigars still feel and look a little dryer...and I worry..... I will be curious to hear more thoughts concerning this dryness and flavor issue (without de railing this thread...maybe I should start a thread just for this) Thank you and best wishes, Curtiss Good news is that PM's occurred behind the scenes, an apology and all is good. regarding the loss of oils, my experience is that they will start dissipating at around 56 RH. You can certainly re-hydrate a cigar but you can not get the oils back. As to how long it takes to lose oils entirely, it is a matter of how low the RH is. At 56 it would take 4-5 weeks. At 10 RH, a matter of days.
Freefallguy Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 When in Oz in NOV '09 I did an '08 Lusi review with Rob and Ken on Ken's deck. When I got home I had three 10 counts shipped. One for me and one each for my sons' wedding presents. They were over the top that good. The boys' boxes are tucked away and I'm working, slowly, through mine. They are still "that good."

One of my favorite FOH video reviews.
Lotusguy Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Never had a Lusi I cared for... But Partagas is probably my anti-marca so what do I know

Cheers, ~ Greg ~ I too have a 50 cab with this box code from the Perez... they are not the darkest wrappers in my collection or the strongest sticks either. But they have been some of the most enjoyed smokes I've had. Mild and steady, with great flavor. Many on this board have been gifted or smoked one with me... and state the very same thing. Great change of pace cigar and one that will take you to that happy place.
