Here's a pic of my stash. It's a cabinet in our 10x5 cedar lined wine cellar . I control the temp/humidity of the room to suite my cigars. In a thread from a couple of weeks back from Patc there seem to be a lot of concern about cigars getting to much air circulation affecting the smell/flavor. My cabinet breaths a lot.Purposely designed this way because I'm controlling the room and not the cabinet. So my question is do you think I should close the box lids to cut down on the air circulation that the sticks are getting?

Is that Spanish cedar or aromatic cedar? If it's not Spanish cedar, cigars have a tendency over time to pick up funky flavors from the red cedar.

I don't think it's Spanish.I built it like 10 yrs ago.Its not over powering like a cedar closet.

I would close the lids if it were mine.

Looks like local white cedar,if it was me I would line the inside of the cabinet with Spanish cedar and seal the doors with a good foam seal

I think putting a shade on that window is your first concern. Then make sure it is kiln dried spanish cedar and not regular cedar. And yes, i would close the boxes too. Less air = slower aging

That's a block window that provides no direct sun light and very little light at all. Most of the light you see is from the flash. It's pretty dim in there.

Open boxes are good for cigars that are being smoked and tighter sealed boxes are said to promote ageing....FWIW I leave all box lids cracked on my cigars....I usually use the nail to keep the lids slightly ajar...I use oust fans to promote air circulation to keep the RH even throughout...

How are your cigars? How do they smoke? Are they ok?

No problems. For the first 8 years it was NC and now the last 2-3 CC. They taste great, my palate is not real developed to pick up some of the flavors that others have but to me they taste great.I was asking the question thinking maybe there might be some long term effects.

I'm no humidor specialist but if your cigars are ok after all these years, it's a good sign that the humi is ok. Yess Spanish cedar is the way to go and keep your puros away from direct light but no need to panic at this point. Many would be jealous to have such a huge space to keep their cigars.

Question to the other members of this forum: can we improve the situation by adding planks of spanish cedar inside the actual humi? This could be a cheap fix?

Good point. You could probably add at least one shelf

Yup, good idea.I will when I need more space. I do have another small case in the room, I'll post more pics.post-10830-0-41637200-1360797693_thumb.jpost-10830-0-99078800-1360797737_thumb.jpost-10830-0-53922100-1360797916_thumb.j

Nice setup you got there. I'm missing my huge basement and two storey house after moving back to Australia from the Midwest!

Looks like an awesome space down there :)

The cobalt in the blue door paint will kill every living thing within 2 klicks of your lit cigars!!!

...just kidding mate! I am with MK5. More storage space is better! Nice setup by the way, thanks for sharing.
