Alright, so after my poor first experience with Bolívar a few weeks ago, I'm back for round two. Will I like a BBF more than the RC?

Bolívar Belicosos Finos. Box code unknown. Vitola size: 5.5x52. Paid $21/single.

Cold observations: Solid construction. Wrapper is even and smooth. Cold aroma is quite woody, mostly cedar, and a little pepper at the foot. Draw is perfect, with cold notes still in the spicy-woody sphere, with dry oak and chili flakes. Very similar to my experience with the RC so far.

First third: Big bodied, with complex spice flowing through. Ground peppercorns, basil and garlic. Underlying wood component holding everything together. Dry oak and ashwood. There's also a definite fruitiness, predominantly passion fruit, with cherry and dried apricot enhancing the fruity sweetness.

Second third: Subtle drop in body, with the spice mellowing, allowing some of the fruit and dry wood notes to come to the fore. A little saltiness now, and some cooked tomato.

Final third: Slightly less fruit, more wood with brown leather. Umami character with the tomatoes and some roast beef still present. Black liquorice jumping up in the last few puffs.

Comparing my notes here, many of the same flavours here I encountered with the RC, and yet, I found this a much more enjoyable smoke. I suppose the wood and spicy notes that were quite rough with the RC have been tamed and rounded off better here, as this felt like a much more... refined cigar. I liked this a lot.

Thanks for the review. The RC and BF are my least favorites of the line. If you haven't already, you might want to give the CJ, PC, CG a try.

I agree 100%

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll scope those options out. I also have another Boli (Inmensas) in the tuppador that I'll get around to sometime in the next month hopefully.

I have from 06 that are amazing.. It sounds weird, but its the only cigar I have have that tastes of cologne, I guess its the spiciness to it. When I smoke one, it tastes like my cologne smells, if that makes any sense at all....

Strangely enough, that makes perfect sense.

Love your reviews. I love the Boli line through and through and the BBF is just a staple for me. They had some down years but maybe I've been lucky as I've smoked boxes from 03-12 dress and SLB which I prefer, dark and light wrappers, and never had a bad one. Some were more on but I've never had one I didnt like.

I love Bolivars. When aged it becomes a mellow, fruity with some cedar cigar...then just when you start to think it's getting boring, boom a citrus note pops in to say hi. Yum!
