dangolf18 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 I recently got a 50 cab of Punch DC's from '99. On the bottom there's a "Revisado" burned in. I've never seen that before. Can anybody explain what that means?
Nocoins Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 1999 had problems with construction. Several years later, HSA opened the boxes and revisited (revisado) the contents to find out if the box contained tent pegs. Since those cigars were caught and released, they should be okay. I've never bought such a box -- how have they smoked?
Michel1968 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Means the box has been opened for quality assurrance. When boxes stay for a longer time in stock (on Cuba that is) this is a standard procedure - pick out a few boxes and check them. Normaly there's a stamp noting the year the box was opened.
Michel1968 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 as can be seen on a box of 2001 Bolivar Lonsdales
Michel1968 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 How can Cuba or anyone make sure that the "re-opened" boxes are now fine? What kind of quality control can be made, other than a visual inspection? I think it's more down to a visual inspection for tobacco beetle, mould or other nasty stuff
dangolf18 Posted November 21, 2012 Author Posted November 21, 2012 Hmmm.. Thanks. There's just the REVISADO (actually in ink) but there's no date next to it. Good to know these were inspected. Just lit up the first one about 30 minutes ago. Quite a nice smoke. Great draw. Flavor profile reminds me of a box of 2005 Punch RS11 that I had. Picking up in power after first third. Sort of strange smoking a promenente without a band.
Michel1968 Posted November 21, 2012 Posted November 21, 2012 Thanks. That's what I thought. Still doesn't guarantee anything I think though. Could still be as plugged. Indeed... You shouldn't see it as quality seal towards the consumer... it's an internal matter...
Smallclub Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 I think it's more down to a visual inspection for tobacco beetle, mould or other nasty stuff Not at all. The revisado process was initiated to detect and eliminate boxes full of plugged cigars; it has NOTHING to do with mold or beetles…
Smallclub Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Still doesn't guarantee anything I think though. Could still be as plugged. No, it's precisely the opposite (theorically).
Michel1968 Posted November 22, 2012 Posted November 22, 2012 Not at all. The revisado process was initiated to detect and eliminate boxes full of plugged cigars; it has NOTHING to do with mold or beetles… Okay, I live and learn... But let me assure you they did a terrible job on my Boli Lonsdales!!!
QuaiDorkay Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I've had these for five years or so and just noticed the Revisado stamp. They smoke nicely. 2

Did they just inspect feel for firmness? I was aware that the primary impetus was draw related but never thought about how they'd inspect for that.

RijkdeGooier Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 On the whole REVISADO thingy someone I know happened to mention they revised the stock they still had from those bad years. He also mentioned that the good stock from those years was already gone before the REVISADO action as they sold well. So what stock did make it second time around needn't be the very best of these years but rather would be classified as 'seconds'. 1
NSXCIGAR Posted June 29, 2016 Posted June 29, 2016 I received many REVISADO boxes back in the day and they seemed perfectly fine to my recollection...

No. What I've been told is the process took place in the warehouse, and not in a galera. Then the "revisadors" didn't use any tool, with the exception of the team of rollers sent in Germany (in the mid 2000's) to check and re-roll a stock of terrible boxes of Cohiba Lanceros…
