Smallclub Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 … They do small runs of regional releases which they have to think up, set up the production of, and market with an unknown outcome... No. The Regionals are payed cash and in advance by the distributors who requested them. much easier to do a thousand boxes of a "re-release" (like the SdC) that are pre-sold. Less costly for them by far. And who will pay in advance these boxes on the basis of polls on cigars forums? How many people who ticked "yes I would buy 3 boxes" will actually send +1000$ in 6 months from now?
frenchkiwi Posted November 9, 2012 Author Posted November 9, 2012 No. The Regionals are payed cash and in advance by the distributors who requested them. true i was muddling with ELs - but this further strengthens the point - futures production is already happening in the form of REs at distributors behest. So El Presidente's idea isn't so far-fetched. And who will pay in advance these boxes on the basis of polls on cigars forums? How many people who ticked "yes I would buy 3 boxes" will actually send +1000$ in 6 months from now? if the likes of Rob and Ravi set it up, there's a lot of credibility and trust right there. I already pay months/years in advance for cigars i assume are sitting in this "cigar locker" somewhere in Australia, and i'm not alone in my (probably misguided ;-) trust. This is just a hypothetical poll of course, but you've got to start somewhere...
tippexx Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Aww fiddlesticks! I best take all mine back for a refund! I would Cap'n, dem 5th Avenue LCdH are just bustin' wi' fakes. Futures? Oil. Yeah you can make a lotta stuff with oil. French wine. Yeah, some o' the vines have been in the ground for Centuries, so you can pretty much bank on wot gets tread out. Cuban tobacco. Not a chance. I don't trust the hybrid leaf, production smokes to me at least, seem to be deteriorating year on year. Peter's fields are being robbed to make Paul's unremarkable ERs and LEs .... and as for the precise SdC blend, even with the right fields available I wouldn't trust Habanos to find it.
Pilgrims Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 I work in fine wine and futures or "en primeur" is something I am very used to but they depend on the producer and supplier being reliable and may be I am being over pragmatic here but I trust Rob and FOH, I do not trust Habanos enough and therefore much as I would love to I would not get into this...ever though it is hypothetical on an emotional level? 3 boxes (one of each)
frenchkiwi Posted December 7, 2012 Author Posted December 7, 2012 Interesting... a straw poll of a few members in one aficionados forum gets over 200 boxes of interest... (round it out to a thousand with all those dudes buying 4+ ie 40 boxes each lol) @El Pres: there's a Very rough indication for you of support for pre-purchasing a run of PSdC (i prefer this terminology to "futures" actually, which has connotations of a whole lotta other stuff). Maybe it could be the next Asia-Pacific RE. Thanks all.
La Suerte Posted January 10, 2013 Posted January 10, 2013 Sorry to come in late on this post, my thoughts are just basic, having smoked Cubans for a long time & seen wonderful cigars get axed at a whim, the general run of the mill cigars go downhill in leaf quality the ramp up to stupid size to manipulate a growth market... All I'll say is I won't entertain the idea... As for replicating a deleted cigar, can't be done with any certainty, by nature the soil change puts any records of leaf or where it came from fairly irrelevant...futures are gambling but I'd prefer a full deck... Just my opinion....
racer Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 I think LGC or RA 898's are the way to go for something like this. If they did a "futures sale" on RA 898's, those boxes have a fairly high demand, and would be a viable weather gauge for H S.A. to see how it could pan out. I think the recent RA Extras EL may have been an indicator for them already at how viable the market may be for RA releases. I'd love to see this in the new year, although I very HIGHLY agree with others that H S.A. doesn't have my trust for this. Unfortunately, I'd only take a gamble and put my money down if it were for RA 898's. For anything else, I'm sorry, but it'd have to be the distributors/marketers that put down their futures deposits, as I wouldn't cough up for it likely. RA Petite Coronas, RA Lonesdales? what say you

bassman Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 RASCC is not a petite corona. It's an inch shorter. Discontinued cigars could be redone as regionals. SLR once had a Piramide. Now they have a Pacifico.
hoyopr Posted January 6, 2014 Posted January 6, 2014 Enjoyed a SdC#1 yesterday, only a few left but the day was quite nice and had some spare time. These I would like to see come back.
dangolf18 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Is $485 for a box of the No.1 a reasonable price?
shlomo Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Is $485 for a box of the No.1 a reasonable price? Thats crazy imo...unless they are from the mid 90's or earlier...
dangolf18 Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Thanks Shlomo. It's from a Swiss shop in Geneva. If exchange rates were better it'd be around $350. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
