There are 3 new 2012 Edicion Limitada released now into the marketplace.

H Upmann Robusto, Robusto vitola, 50 ring gauge and 4.9 inches in length

Montecristo 520, Maravilla No. 3 vitola, 55 ring gauge and 6.1 inches in length

Partagas Serie C, Hermosos No. 3 vitola, 48 ring gauge and 5.5 inches in length

I've been waiting for this one to come out as I was curious how this would compare with the H. Upmann LCDH release. Curiosity killed the cat. LOL

The 2012 Edicion Limitada H. Upmann Robusto is a nice looking cigar. The wrapper is lighter than previous ELs, much like what I noticed in the 2012 Edicion Limitada Partagas Serie C.

The wrapper itself is a little rustic and toothy but smoother than previous ELs as well. The colour of the wrapper is a colour of coffee with a little bit of cream. Minimal veinage.

Construction is excellent. Nice and solid throughout the cigar with a slight give. Perfect. No soft spots. The triple cap is well applied and the foot of the cigar is packed.

The aroma off of the wrapper is deep, rich chocolate and a hint of spice. Cold draw from the foot doesn't reveal too much.

A quick punch and we are ready to go.

Cold draw reveals molasses, cream, a touch of spice and earthiness. The draw itself is a little firm. Shouldn't be an issue.

Time to take this to the flame...

First Third

Oolong tea hits my palate after the first few puffs followed by bitter chocolate and earthiness. Strength is in the medium bodied category.

The smoke is nice. Easy draw after it is lit. Nice amount of smoke for a freshie. Burn line is solid.

There is a hint of sweetness on the after finish however, it is dominated by earthiness, cocoa and oolong tea. Finish is a little short though.

The ash is 'Dirty' greyish white. Nice density. The little white dots are present as well. Been noticing this a lot of the recent production cigars. I believe that this is a sign of properly fermented tobacco. I am also told that it is a sign of good luck!!!

Second Third

The ash is holding on strong. The strength has tempered to the mild medium bodied category.

The sweetness has come in more prominently now. Maple syrup mixed with chocolate and the oolong tea flavours. Nice addition. Really nice flavour combination.

The after finish welcomes the addition of the molasses as well. Very soft flavours. Delicate.

I wish there was more bass to this cigar. What I mean is I would have like to have a more fuller portion of earthiness in the cigar.

Seems to get lighter as I smoke it. Odd... Never had a regression of strength like this before.

Final Third

The flavours are succumbing to the sweetness. Strength has dissipated to being mild bodied.

It's like everything is fading to black. Slowly ebbing away in flavour and power. Slowly going off to pasture.

More muddling. Earthiness and oolong tea have gone off into the sunset. Only sweetness remains....Chocolate covered raisins.....

Final Impressions

This is a very interesting cigar. Started off ok but lost its mojo as I smoked it. In a confusing state right now. Might be in a state of shock as these landed here this past week.

Might need to revisit in a couple of months to see how they are coming along. Based on first impressions, I prefer the H. Upmann LCDH Royal Robusto right now. We'll see what happens when I revisit them.
