tburke89 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 This is my first ever review of a cigar, so please bare with me. Pre-light - I didn't take a picture pre-light, but the construction of the cigar was beautiful. The wrapper was a nice dark shade, and although it was not extremely oily it certainly had a nice little shine to it. Not a vein anywhere to be found on the leaf. The pre light draw had a good pull to it, and tasted mildly sweet. First 1/3 - The cigar lit quickly and evenly. The smoke was a bit more mild bodied than I had expected, but rich and thick. The flavor was sweet, but not sweet like vanilla, a sweet like the taste of a lot of sugar in a cup of good black coffee. There was a mild taste of leather and tobacco accenting the smoke, and as it got towards the end of the first 1/3 the smoke began to take on a more full bodied flavor. The ash was dark and extremely firm, refusing to fall off on it's own. Second 1/3 - The sweet profile of the cigar began to fade, but it did not disappear. The smoke became heavier and resembled the flavor of a cup of bold black coffee. Occasionally I tasted leather and dark chocolate. Final 1/3- Very similar to the flavors from the second third, but with a bit more of the sweetness returning to it and the bold coffee flavor becoming stronger and more pronounced. Also breaking through more were the notes of dark chocolate, but not really any leather flavor. Overall - An excellent smoke. This was the last cc that I had and I savored every moment of it. Total smoke time was over an hour. Definitely an end of the day cigar for me and not a morning cigar, too full bodied. Overall, I'd rate it around a 91. PS - Thanks Doug!
SerieT Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 thanks for the great review...the ramon allones extra was my favorite LE of 2011
nikesupremedunk Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Interesting, I had my first RAE tonight as well. With all the hype about it, I was honestly disappointed. The flavors were a muted, just a bit chocolatey and not much else. Only good thing about it was that it had a great draw and burned nicely but pretty lacking...going to let it sit for 6 months and hope it gets better.

I bought a few boxes of these in Cuba last fall and having been really enjoying them. Go back to them in the spring and I'd be surprised if they you didn't enjoy them.
Wil Posted January 3, 2013 Posted January 3, 2013 Great review. Smoking my first one now. Didn't get the coffee, but lots of typical LE chocolate (not what i normally associate with RA. Nice cigar though. What are ppls thoughts on their ageing potential?
Bernid Posted January 4, 2013 Posted January 4, 2013 Nice review, I like it, too. Now, tell me why Jerry would like it?
sactochris Posted January 8, 2013 Posted January 8, 2013 I've never heard an explanation of why they used a local brand for an EL when they created the 2011 RA EL. I'm certainly not complaining mind you, it's one of my very favorite EL's.
