maverickdrinker Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 holograms missing, box codes missing and wrong font on the box code to start...
maverickdrinker Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 no writing on the yellow band.....
Nino Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Great Art, you have 90 points, carry on, please .... You're missing something
Wicky Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 The caps look funny. Iv'e never seen Octubre spelled with a K.
cigarsmoke Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 MKO box code on the Hoyo box is an El Laguito factory....Not made there. Also MKO was not used in 2008. MKO was used in 2003/4
maverickdrinker Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 The 1966 box is missing the edixion limitafa stickers and habana, cuba below the cohiba 1966
Nino Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Right on - thank you gentlemen for the details, looks we have the 100 points. The most funny code month, must be specially made for ze German market : Octubre spelled OKT Yeah, right, I forgot the excuse they all give : It's Cuba, right ?
Nino Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 The 1966 box is missing the edixion limitafa stickers and habana, cuba below the cohiba 1966 Art, you're right on the EL stickers and wrong/right ( choose one ) on the habana, cuba below the 1966 - guess I'll have to eat my "It's Cuba, right ?" words as I have found pictures of the box with AND without the words ..... Also, the "official" H SA pic shows the box with just the EL sticker and the Habanos dop sticker on the cardboard ... Pictures are from : JJ Fox, H SA, cigars.ie blog, memoir of a cigar blog in descending order :
BrotherBear Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 Hmm... I think we'll have to investigate this further in Havana
MC4 Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 It seems to me if there IS any writing under 1966, it's a fake.
Nino Posted September 29, 2012 Posted September 29, 2012 No need for further investigations in Havana, Marc : I decided to take the BHK 52 from a dubious source to my local Cafe after a good dinner tonight and give it a try. Good construction, wrapper a bit dry, not much in dry tasting, very good burn. Flat. Generic taste & aroma. "Speechless" - didn't "talk" to me. Ash solid & dark. No need for touch ups. Mild cigar. Flat. No excitement. No perceptible changes, no depth, no soul, boring. No Cohiba. Decent but world's apart from any class. At most a 2 CUC cigar in HAV. Smoking time : 65 minutes Beverages : Mineral water and a double Asbach Uralt Brandy. Picture comparison with "Discover Habanos Vol. 2" : Lower black spots just 1 1/2 rows instead of 2 rows. Worse than the cigar experience : Having to listen to 3 fat young ladies next table exchange themselves in depth about hair colouring and treatment .... :-) Some pics and a scan of the band :

The DOP Habanos sticker and the factory & date codes on on the outer cardboard box, as is the Security seal. The 5th Avenue seal is on the outer box, and the government duty/price seal is on the boite-nature box. Hotpuma Posted September 30, 2012 Posted September 30, 2012 I got ripped a month or so ago when I bought and was sent a box of fakes. It seems the more I read in these forums and generally over the web the more common this issue is. Up until I received the box I was completely oblivious to this issue, being very new to cigars in general. I couldn't see how they could stay in business because to my mind the cigar business would be all about repeat and return clients. However, with them it seems they are not concerned if their customers are not going to return for more, as El Prez pointed out, if you've only got to find 80 newbies like me to make 20k then in many countries 20k is a hell of an incentive. I kind of feel embarrassed I didn't see it before but I'm more careful now which is why I am here learning the ropes so to speak.
Ryan Posted October 1, 2012 Posted October 1, 2012 I haven't really been following this thread but if it's of any help, I was with Yiorgos when he took this picture. It was at the convention centre in Havana during the festival in February 2011. So this was a very early box. Edit. I just realised, that yellow checkered thing in the corner of the picture, stretched over a somewhat portly tummy, is my shirt!

It helps, as this might indeed have been a prototype and the lettering was not used on the official released boxes.
MC4 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 This I recently got in an un-opened sealed box. All the stickers and lables and box look good. However, the cigars themselves have a lot of vein, the caps I am not sure of, judge for yourself: http://s568.photobucket.com/albums/ss126/cigar_joe/Cohiba%201966/

I haven't seen any 1966 up close, so maybe this isn't unusual. I'm sure someone else will chime in with more experience.
