Two LFTH's ago I jumped on a box of Cuaba Divino's (Divinos's?). I have never bought a box of this marca before, since I had never seen anyone of my Toronto brothers smoke one.

But the size was intriguing to me. I have been a fan of AF Short Stories in a previous life.

Matthew tried one a few days ago and said they were tasty but strong. He usually just says, "Very nice" or "Not bad".

I liked this cigar and the flavor was like nice strong tea. Smooth and no bitterness at all. I did not find it too strong. I do not find a lot of cigars too strong, like R&J Cazzies, but others I know do.

The divinos really are a marmite (or vegemite for the aussies) cigar...

You either love 'em or hate 'em, whats sad is i think that applies to the whole brand for most people. But i think the divinos are a cracking little cigar.

Marmite. I like it. I liken the Divinos to the espresso of the coffee world for me. I don't drink it often, but every now and then I like a bit of a smack across the gob from its bitter wood profile. Dryish, never sumptuous, 2-3 a year is all I smoke of this little sparkplug.

Few years ago that was my favourite smoke. For some reason i stopped smoking them. Nice to hear they are good now.

This cigar brings to mind a discussion we have in the specialty coffee business a lot. This is the issue of BOLD vs STRONG in a coffee bean.

Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee beans make BOLD coffee. Bright, super flavorful, rich and with deep, chocolatey, rum like tones.

Hawaiian Kona is a MILD coffee bean, with citrus notes, fresh taste and smooth flavors and is one of the most popular coffees in the world.

BUT... you can use twice as much coffee and make Kona STRONGER and rot your socks off, use less Yirgacheffe and make it weaker, so it is more palatable for drinkers who like coffee on the lighter side.

The same could be said for cigars that are richer and bolder in taste, but others that are brash and make you wheeze, like ones that are too young perhaps?

I love the flavor, size and shape of these cigars. But after continually finding at least half of all orders plugged or otherwise totally unsmokable, I just gave up on them. I'd give them another try if others indicate they have not had this problem of late. ---sam
