cohiba robusto

Name: Cohiba Robusto.

Rob, this was one I picked up from you around 12 months ago (anything to help you put those kids through school) so you may be able to assist.

Tasting Notes - Bagging this cigar would be like spitting on the flag - it must go close to being the universal favourite. And for good reason. It was fabulous - full of spice, cinnamon, creamy coffee and dark chocolate notes, ended with power but a clean finish and top aftertaste. The only downside with this one was that it insisted on a very crooked burn, despite almost pyromanical efforts to correct it. Still, nice to get a cigar from Rob that isn’t plugged. I’d have scored it higher but for the burn. 91.

Rob: It is a running joke here. Every plugged cigar we find gets set aside for Ken's personal stash. Hell....it isn't like he pay's for them and better he get's them than you :-D. The Cohiba Robusto is a personal favourite and a staple in my home humidor. It it is the sweet honey and cream profile of an aged Cohiba Robusto which is permanently inprinted on my memory.

I smoked a Cohiba Robusto this morning while having several cups of good coffee. The CoRo was loaded with honey spicy and elegant nuances with hints of vanilla bean. Enjoyed it tremendously. Sad part is I only have a couple left, decision, decisions, decisions on what next to order???????????????????

Any Specials comming up????? LOL:rotfl:

This is definately one of my favorite cigars...And this is hard to admit because I love Partagas more than anyother marque.

But I have to agree this is a great smoke, very smooth from begining to end, Wonderfull flavors of honey, some Vanilla thrown in there, along with some nice woodsy flavors....D

Enjoyed my first Cohiba robusto at a friend's place at South West Rocks right on the beach. Excellent smoke, sounds of the surf & a glass of 18 year old Glen morangie with Miles Davis playing softly in the background really made this a total experience.

Look forward to trying another soon, after trying the Siglo VI I just ordered.

Just submitted a pic of my mug with nearby Cohiba, and (if Rob publishes it) those with a little eyesight left might notice that it's burning crooked too, but what with the accompanying Pattersons Sparkling Shiraz (Mt Barker WA), I wasn't keeping score. Excellent smoke!

Hello to all. I am a newby and have smoked less than two boxes of the Cohiba Robusto. I have never met a plugged one yet. The wrappers are always near perfect and the draw is dependable. I don't know if I taste all of that stuff that Ken does but I like them. El Presedente says that a five year old stick is magic. I wish he would send me one. Mine never get past the green stage before they meet the inferno. Is the first Lady my girl Lisa?;-)

After the recent look at the CoRo where I mentioned the crooked burn, thought I should take another look, just purely for the purposes of R & D. This one came from the R & J factory and I must confess went up in ashes within 30 minutes of leaving there. It was rich, full-flavoured and with all the good things about it that everyone loves and this one certainly burnt immaculately. 92+.

If we almost ignore the Esplendido, we do seem to focus heavily on the CoRo and to be fair, it is almost always a reliable and excellent cigar. For some reason, it is one that I, though not others, tend to neglect (suspect price plays a role). A mate on the trip smokes almost nothing but, and they normally have a little age. What a wonderful, creamy, complex and subtle smoke they are and one that I really must focus on a lot more. Certainly of they can be this good regularly. Dark choc, woodsmoke, herbs and more. Liked this a lot. 93.

» the cohiba has never been my favorite robusto. not necessarily price, i

First one I ever had was purchased at a casino in Aruba 7 years ago. Paid way too much and then the thing canoed (burnt mostly down one side) the entire time. I believe thats due to being rolled on the thighs of promiscuous women, but thats another story.

I came back to try another last year, and it blew me away. Working thru my 2nd box now, and will never run out. They're that good.

Gotta agree with you. I just am not big on the grassy flavors I get from the coro. Plenty of robustos I prefer. Also like the Lanceros and most of the Siglo series. Never tried one with age on it, but the way they just sit there in my humi, I'll find out eventually if age does the trick.

Name: Cohiba Robusto.

Length: 124mm

Gauge: 50

Box Date: Unknown, was part of last month’s special. Assuming that they are recent productions, possibly late 05.

Note: This is all in my own option and taste, so it is just what I got from the experience. I could be talking from my @$$ for the flavour profile :D

Decided to retry these, now that I have mature in my experience and tastes with Habanos. These were enjoyed with a few friends to get their options on how they are now and when they have last tried them (which was quite a few years ago [4] on my 26th birthday).

Didn’t really need an excuse to smoke them other than the fact that my friend had a get together and these were in there to be smoked. I was suppose to have smoked them earlier at friends’ wedding but never got the chance.

The construction as always is superb, which should be the case with Cohiba’s. Light tan wrapper, decent oil. The pre-light aroma reminded me of fresh cut grass for some reason.

Used a punch and took a draw, to me it was just right on the slight tight side. My friend – Fuzz (long story) – complained that it was too tight. To each their own. The flavours fro mthe pre-light was of herbs, grass and strangely nuts on my palate.

All this was a bit strange but I attributed it to the fact that I am totally intoxicated at this point and having cross wires with my tongue.

After going “Flame on” with the Z-plus, the burn on the cigar was a bit ugly but soon things evened out and onwards with the smoke.

Loads of smoke from the Robusto, first impressions were very subtle hints of dark chocolate, espresso coffee. This continue on until halfway through when the spice flavour started to come out.

All in all this was a very satisfying cigar for the 45 mins we spend.

The burn was top notched, no need to touch up, though the burn was a little crooked towards the end. Ash was a greyish white the whole way through.

I gave this a 87, mainly because it is very very young. With a few years aging, I think the profile will be more balanced and the subtle flavour be more noticeable.

PS: After having re-visit this cigar, I am convinced that I am now a small ring gauge cigar lover.

Thanks for the review - I have some sitting up (might be '03). My first go around did not prompt me to light up another anytime soon - have gifted away several and received no complaints ;-)

Might be time for another sampling.

Tried another of these today - singles, no codes.

Construction and draw were great.

Wrapper was a very nice light caramel color, smooth with a nice sheen.

Started out with a light taste of toffee, and a hint of pepper spice.

It quickly turned to it's primary taste, for the duration, of Chinese tea.

There was also some grassiness (showing some youth), but not overwhelming.

There were very subtle hints of cooking chocolate and anise, that would show,

then quickly subside.

All in all a nice smoke on a (finally) nice day.
