Vortigan Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Overpriced,overrated dragon chasing.......thanks,but no.
Charltonc Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I think I'm the only one here who does lol but I quite like the PR format. I think the Hoyo PR is a fantastic smoke, most people know my opinions on the LFDC short robusto and I can't wait to try the Cohiba one from the travel humidor. The reason is purely down the time/weather constraints. The weather over the past few years here has been pure foul, if yu se a break in the clouds you have to dash out with a corona/PC/short robusto. With a lot of the coronas having been deleted or being rolled with trampled banana leaves (RyJ + Punch) the short/petit robusto is a nice new option. I'd love to be able to smoke churchils reguarly but to date this year, the weather has allowed me to smoke one churchil and one sublime. Every other cigar has been a smaller one. I love the HDM petit robusto. This is the reason I will not buy the Diplomatico Petit robusto. I can probably get two HDM PR for the price of one Regional Diplomatico Petit robusto.
ramon_cojones Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 I don't mind PRs I just don't want them wasting superb tobacco on them but since this is hsa we're talking about we don't really have to worry about that now do we?? If a cigar is going to very very good then a PR is simply too short to really savor pure and simple but I can understand their purpose and am not against them. What I don't understand and my main gripe is the absurd pricing, 350 for AP PLs? Superiores around that much? Robustos are 200 a box and coros are in the low 300s which is already a rip off but extortionate pricing from brands who don't typically have extortionate pricing is, well, extortion. Why are they double the cost? Makes no sense.

There always have and always will be people who,as long as they believe they're getting something "special",something limited, something that only the exclusive few will ever possess, will shell out ridiculous money in order to get it.Never mind the cost, look how shiny it is!!
backslide Posted August 2, 2012 Posted August 2, 2012 Indeed it's great to see a Diplomatico! I just wish it wasn't on a petit robusto... I never understood the purpose of this size really. For me this is nearly a perfect commute cigar. That's my purpose for loving this size. Not everyone likes or wants to sit for 1.5hrs or longer smoking a cigar. I smoke more Petit robusto, Petit corona, and minuto's than anything.

Oh believe me I know vortigan, I know. And gerson I'm well aware of the supply and demand curve model as I have a degree in Economics. I wanted to know if there was a factual reason behind the doubling of the price of a box of robustos I'm buying two boxes of d4s at those prices anyways so no stress there.

My guess is that this is purely pricing strategy. Considering HSA is partly owned by Altadis and now Imperial Tobacco which is a publicly owned company managed by professionals, it is just natural that these guys try to come up with more profitable cigars. Can you blame them? Well, I'm not sure, IMO luxury products should a very particular way of being handled. But it appears to have worked for the corporations for brands such as Johnny Walker and Zacapa (Diageo), Louis Vuitton and Moet Chandon (LVMH)... Not so much for the avid consumer though.
mk05 Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 Yeah, I get the feeling Cuba LOVES to roll at 50 ring gage. Masters of the Robusto Or that the Robusto is the most preferred (best selling) vitola in the world.
backslide Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 I'm looking forward to my attempt to track down and procure a box of Diplomaticos.
Ghabanos Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 HSA continues to save me more money Then rob comes around with all his draws and watches and 1966.
kodebusan Posted August 3, 2012 Posted August 3, 2012 The RE have a great interest for Habanos compare to the standard edition as they are paid "cash"on delivery by the distributor. No stock to handle and get sure that all the cigars are being paid right after their production. For the amateur, even if not all worth it (i'm also quite fed up with the over huge and over short cigars), the RE have made living a marcas like Por Larrañaga that 10 years ago was consider to join Gispert, Cabañas, La Corona, Flor de Cano etc... in oblivion or in the making of cheap cigar. What a joy for me to have a Dalia with the same aromatic line than the Petit Corona PL (for this i think we can thanks this forum and his president as i think they are for something in the decision to have a Dalia in the PCC choice of RE). Also for the choice of size and liga, Habanos is not to blame on this one (for once) but the distributor. The good news is also that the right of the vitolas get back to Habanos after 5 years, we can hope to see some of RE in standard production one day, a PL Robusto next year, A Belicosos Extra in 1 or 2 years and (dream dream dream) an Encantos for 2015.... The real problem with so many RE is that they have neglected the production of some of the standard cigar (LGC MdO#2 (haven't seen a box more recent than 2008), Sir Winston (2010) etc...) and they are out of stock in many distributors. Let's that some of the cigars in the RE appears in standard production (but with the fashion of the short fatty, i'm scared it is not the good one will see appear).
CanuckSARTech Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Indeed it's great to see a Diplomatico! I just wish it wasn't on a petit robusto... I never understood the purpose of this size really. Completely agreed. I'll get a box to try, to see how faithful the blend is and whatnot, but I won't like the size. Even being a robusto and piramide lover, I find the petit craze is getting annoying.
ZinZan Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Instead of making 18 regionals a year RA should concentrate on adding more cigars to their standard lineup (except that extra). X2. Is because RA marca have a more of "underground" following? I love the Small Club and Superiores, don't understand why they don't have larger line up for the standard production
Pilgrims Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Again (almost) only gags with RG 50 and bigger. I like the slim, elegant formats. IMO they're simply better. with you all the way here, 48 the smallest gauge and most 52+, not good to my mind albeit good to see which brands
bassman Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Normally I'd be interested in a Diplo RE, but don't like the size so will pass. Was considering another box of SLR Pacificos, but just got a box of SLR Coronas instead & saved a lot of money. Never hear about the coronas, but they are (were) nice cigars.
SteveGriff Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 Spoke to a H&F rep on twitter, they're planning on releasing a Cigar to celebrate the 225th anniversary of Hunters & Frankau. Seeing that the Ramon Allones is called Aniversario 225 then would this be the "special cigar for 2015"? Ramon Allones — Aniversario 225 141x50 gordito____UK QUESTION: The French magazine in question. How did they find out this information? Did they call up a bunch of different importers, or was one of their reporters taking a stroll round the Cuban Cigar factories, making note of what was being produced? If he did to the latter, then the Aniversario 225's are being made now? Steve
