OZCUBAN Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Hi Rob It sounds like you have had an absolute gut full of the mindless Buearocracy in this country , I am guessing something in the legislation has changed . Come what may for what it is worth we are behind you 100% Cheers OZ
ptrthgr8 Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 We have an often used meme here in the US that refers to three boxes that should be used to defend liberty: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box... and they should preferably be used in that order. Here in the US the 3rd box hasn't been widely used in ~150 years. As the state continues to infringe upon the rights of individuals with increasingly blatant and flagrant disregard for the limitations of its legitimate authority... well... I worry that the chances of the 3rd box being used becomes greater and greater. Greg Sent from my HTC Thunderbolt using Tapatalk 2.
headstand Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 My sympathies Rob. Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. C.S. Lewis Great quote. God in the Dock: Essays on Theology and Ethics Just so we are clear about where the quote comes from.
El Presidente Posted June 19, 2012 Author Posted June 19, 2012 Cheers for the support. It was one of those days. For Aussies we are dealing with 2 pieces of legislation, the first being Internet legislation due to be implemented Sep 6 and the second plain packaging legislation launching Dec (but needing to be in place October). Naturally the Govt hasn't finalised the internet legislation. There is a draft but the final legislation has not been tabled. I have probably put 200 hours in to ensuring I meet the requirements of the draft legislation. However every single question I forward for clarification comes back with "we don't know, seek legal advice, the Sep 6 timetable will apply". How on earth do you seek legal advice on a "draft" you public service morons. It takes time, money and commitment to meet a Sep 6 deadline. New websites have to be created, "T's crossed, "i's dotted. Web developers appointed as well as legal teams to ensure you comply. The fine in not doing so is $250,000 and jail. Hence the reason for the rant

CaptainQuintero Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Set up shop next to Ravi Not sure if your liver would last long though!!
CanuckSARTech Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 Tssk, tssk! Potty mouth! Gawd, I can't wait for the fall then (in many different connotations), the way things are going....
Grabo2u2 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Good luck, because I'm certain they'll change most of the rules before the legislation becomes law! You can tell just about every country in the world is in trouble, in times like this they have always raised taxes on anything that brings you pleasure, or they make it illegal !
Fuzz Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Sorry Prez, I am a little out of touch with the legislation... what is the restriction on internet? Or is it hush-hush? Ryan, I believe it is about an amendment to the Tobacco Advertising Prohibition Act to restrict the advertising of tobacco products on Australian websites. Just more Nanny-state interference.

PigFish Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. -- C. S. Lewis Nice to see you post again mate! -R
PigFish Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Gentlemen you need to learn something. If is concerns kids, health or safety... it is some Statist ploy to tax more, grow government and reduce individual freedom. It is that simple. Now matter how much you think that any one law makes sense, if you apply the rule in the second sentence you will get to the root directory. It works every time! If it affects another's private property the same rule can apply. When governments pick on an individual or group of them... it is just a means to dig up public sentiment to nationalize their industry and get the money. I am not going to kick you while you are down mate and go on and on. Please read a little history. Read the political beliefs of those famous few who believe that people are sheep and need to be lead for their own good. All of this deploys from a belief that man must be lead by elitists who know better. Find those people who believe that they know better than you and that is where your problem is. Tyranny is as old as the sky. It changes its name and modernizes to fool the young, but it in fact never changes. It is the oldest form of government. I live in a Statist rich environment. You know where. Even the people here just voted down a statute to raise cigarette taxes a buck a pack. If we can do it you can! I say freedom issues overlap but I won't get partizan on your thread. You know my hot buttons! Make yours tobacco legislation. If a polly is on the wrong side of the issue, he/she is likely a statist on every other issue. This is a rudimentary issue of private property and personal responsibility. It is that simple. Most issues are! Me... I'll be keepin' my cigars, my guns and my SUV!!! Try to take them and you will meet the devil! You may just meet him before you bleed to death! -Ray

I am going to read these things back\front\sideways and start making noise!!!
Duane Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Rob I havn't read it yet but is there a way to use an overseas mirror site? say use japan for instance and bypass the laws due to having the site registered overseas?.

Web developers appointed as well as legal teams to ensure you comply. The fine in not doing so is $250,000 and jail. Hence the reason for the rant How many times have we had arguments over capitalism on this site? The problem is "capitalism," they say, the greedy bastards are responsible for sending jobs off shore, someone needs to legislate them! How many of you (rhetorically) have written this to me? I hate to make a lesson about your problems my friend, but this is why I make these arguments here. Some of you can still be reached. THIS IS WHY BUSINESS LEAVE COUNTRIES! It is not the greed, the lack of love for fellow man, the black hearted Mr. Potter in, "Its a Wonderful Life." It is real business, run by real people harrassed to death by a powerful state and Statist politicians. This is the true meaning of democracy!!! Where a bunch of people who don't give a damn about the rights of another thinks it is a good idea to retire his (rights). This is why democracies don't work, why they are oppressive forms of government! This is why we have written laws to protect individual rights. So the majority cannot oppress the minority. There is absolutely no difference in mindset if a law was drafted to limit the rights of a man if he were a different color. It is because of the ones that believe that there is a subtle difference, that we have this problem. An oligarchy, bolstered with public opinion has decided that because of a certain business, our hosts rights should be waived, or limited. It is easier to blame a minority of businessmen, and of course tax them to death, than it is to let people be free to make up their own minds to smoke or not to smoke. While many of you will deny it, there is logic to the Statist mind. Remove the rights of the minority by pandering to another minority bit by bit. That is until enough of the country is upset over someone else that there is no other solution but to put government in charge of everything. Here is one for you my friends. Your government, the people that you voted for, or at least some of your countrymen voted for, think that you are too stupid to decide what is good for you. That is what they think! You are smart enough to put them in charge, but too dumb to look both ways at an intersection, so you MUST BE CONTROLLED, by them, of course! Your ability to make decisions for yourself shrink, we call that liberty, and their power to make decisions grow and we call that tyranny. Call me paranoid! It is unfolding today in a country nearest you. All you need do is open your eyes and see it. The fact is, the business man is under fire in the lands of the 'less than free.' If you guys like your strong economy... you had better get a grip on it before it turns to an economy like many other parts of the world. This is the stuff that kills economies! Yeah, it can be a slow death, but death comith! This is a hard lesson in Freedom 101 being brought by people who will deny their playbook is Tyranny 101. Most, like the people who will argue with me on this site, don't even know what they are advocating!!! - the Pig
CaptainQuintero Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 You can't solve one extreme by going to another extreme.
NMJoe Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 How many times have we had arguments over capitalism on this site? - the Pig Ray, Perhaps I am in the minority on this site (I have not read many political posts here), but I believe your post to be both eloquent and spot on. Well done and bravo to you. Should I now prepare myself to be flamed?
PigFish Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Ray, Perhaps I am in the minority on this site (I have not read many political posts here), but I believe your post to be both eloquent and spot on. Well done and bravo to you. Should I now prepare myself to be flamed? No heat should come to you mate... I guess unless you stand too close to me!!! -LOL I have been getting heat, and giving it for years here. The place is only as interesting as the people and opinions expressed on it. Many of us disagree, sometimes bitterly. There are none here that I would not shake their hand and offer them a cigar in my home. Our fraternity is a broad one. You must take some if you give some around here. You will be better for it. The place will be better for it. You will only make friends and be a friend by letting yourself be known. While I don't respect all opinions, I accept all those members that choose to opine, and their right to do so respectfully! Guess what? They do the same for me! Cheers mate. -Ray
Orion21 Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 There is no such thing as "freedom" when a select group of "elected" individuals can legislate what you can and can't do. I fully support core ideals of laws and justice, but most other things are a slippery slope issues. No country on earth has been a true democracy since the Greeks when everyone had an equal voice and all issues were put to a vote. The fact that, for convenience sake, we elect representatives to "vote" for us means we have given away our freedom of choice. Unless we become a vocal minority and "elect" those that will fight for what we want we will continue to see our rights taken away. This will continue to occur until our hobby, and others like it, are ruled illegal because a more vocal group won the votes of those elected officials. Even in the US where individual rights are sacred, bureaucrats find ways to legislate things they don't like out of existence -- see prohibition and sin taxes. My head hurts, but to close this fight can only go one of two ways and for years it had been going against us.
NMJoe Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 Ray, I agree with your outlook. If everyone held the same opinion, this would be a dull life to live. Best to you, and to all FoH. Joe
