khomeinist Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 RVP is not an elite international player. Club player? Yes. But he wilts in these Cup tournaments. I blame the Dutch coaching. Poor strategic decisions. As a fan of the Orange, this is quite frustrating.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 No passion by the Dutch at all. If they had played the Russians they would have been drubbed. The bottom lips are coming out from Germany now that it's not going their way! Portugal might be able to nick this if the bibs are totally thrown out of the pram. Loving this comp so far!
canadianbeaver Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Not sure if Belgium is still in this but a few weeks ago when I was in Brussels threre was a big game. Riot police in full shield gear when up and down the street in front of our hotel to keep fans in line and cars/vans circled to watch for trouble. The after show might have been more fascinating than the game.
riazp Posted June 10, 2012 Author Posted June 10, 2012 The way the Danes played they are showing that they will not be an easy team to beat. The dutch played like rubbish and the germans squeed one past the portuguese... I'm really looking foward to Italia v Spain on sunday. should be a great match. Italians have a good defense. should be a cracker
tmac77 Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Danes played extremely well yesterday and were beating the dutch to the ball on a regular basis. If the dutch want to win Robbin needs to do be more imaginative as the Danes cut off his patented shuffle left across the top of the box for a strike. Danish defense was very disciplined and Kaer was IMO man of the match for them. Portugal/Germany match was a comedy or errors. The better team won but inside the 18 yard box both teams finishing touches were dreadful.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Spain are getting ready to bore the knockers off everyone again. 4 defenders and 6 midfielders, not playing a striker at all.....God I hope Italy wipe the floor with them! Here comes an hour and a half of non-stop 5 yard passing *YAWN* Shocking ref, blatently afraid of doing anything against Mr Blatter's favourite team, same thing happens with Barca in the Champions League. No need to book Balotelli at all, he needs that whistle stuffing up his arse! Quality Italy side making a very negative and anti-footballing Spain look very average. Waiting for the Spanish players to spit their dummy out if they aren't winning soon, they will start falling over and rolling about, surrounding the ref and trying to the the Italians booked/sent off. Italian defense and organisation is top notch
riazp Posted June 10, 2012 Author Posted June 10, 2012 Italy played very well. As I thought an exellent defensive side can keep up with spain. If spain want to have a chance they need to open it up. The way croatia is playing right now they could easily beat spain and get out of the group with italy. I agree with CQ, spains 5 yars "beautiful game" is tired and boring and other countries are adapting.
khomeinist Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 lol. Spain could have easily won that match. Don't count them out yet. I was impressed with Italy though. A more free-flowing side than I would expect from them. Croatia could easily progress from this group.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Irish are going home, totally out of their depth. Croatia have some great talent but they are a class below both Italy and Spain. I hope they can nick a point off Spain and send them home but can't see anything other than Italy and Spain sailing through.
mazolaman Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Pretty much disagree with the views of Spain being boring. Having seen England boot the ball up the field, in the hope of finding the big lad up front, for 30+ years...I find it refreshing to watch a side who value keeping the ball, and like to pass it on the floor. Iniesta boring? Some of their inter-play is breathtaking, and they have ball skills that leave my national side for dead. I've never liked watching the Italian national side, as they have ruined many European and World cups by parking the bus in front of the goal, then nicking it with the lone goal from the lone (often brilliant) striker.
khomeinist Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Then you missed the match today Kevin. That was some relatively attractive football from Italy. Plus, Balotelli is must-see. His head is not wired like most men. And no... Spain are hardly dull. Xavi and Iniesta are still amazing.

They usually grind out results in major tournaments. The world cup final between Italy and Brazil was one of the worst games I've seen. Yep, I like Balotelli, and want to see him do well, as you say, he is one of those naturally gifted players, but he hasn't set the world alight at Man City yet. While I'm slagging off negative tactics,I suspect England will pick a defensive team for tonight, with the aim of not loosing against France.Hmmmmm.

England are boring too! Spain are the footballing version of having a team of basketball players who just jog up and down the half way line dribbing about and show off just how good they are at dribbling. Ask them to put the ball in the net and they look at you with a vacent expression. Why do that when they can keep pldding back and forth with the ball on the half way line? Total football can be amazing to watch, The invincibles at Arsenal were stunning but Barca/Spain are a snoozefest. Playing six midfielders and no strikers?! That's basically the same as playing 10 defenders! Watching Pirlo pull the strings setting off attacks etc yesterday was fantastic to watch, I honestly can't say the same for watching the Spanish midfield play keepy-ball with non-stop five yard passes. You know that annoying thing some teams do at for the last few minutes of extra time in cup matches? Take the ball into the corner and try to kill the game? For me, that's just the Barca/Spain way of playing, total anti-football. The worst thing is that you know it's Blatter/Platini's idea of ultimate football so refs protect them to the max for fear of upsetting their boss. Add the fact that Barca/Spain take gamesmanship to a new level, rolling around, diving, trying to get other players sent off then spitting their dummy out/harrassing the ref when it doesn't go their way just makes it not a nice thing to watch for me. Give me fast attacking football like the Russians played at the weekend any day for me!
Puros Y Vino Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 I watched the Italy / Spain match yesterday. I was very excited to see Italy score first. I thought their stingy defensive ways would then take over... but no. Spain evened it up not too much later. Good match overall. The Spaniards are an impressive bunch though. Never seen such crisp passing. They were moving into the offensive zone with 4 - 7 clean passes on average. I was a bit disgusted by the dives taken by either team. Dives ruin soccer.
riazp Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 I too have a feeling that England will field a defensive side in the hopes of not loosing to france. I think england will be very pleased with a draw. Again I don't see them doing much in this tourney. today will tell us what england is about.

CaptainQuintero Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Fair result for England and France, either team could have nicked it. Ribery is still a nasty little cheat.
tmac77 Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Fair result for England and France, either team could have nicked it. Ribery is still a nasty little cheat. very unimagative performance from England, and yes Ribery is a nasty piece of work. Methinks the referee enjoys French wine and someone donated a number of cases of it to him befoer the match.
Nino Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 The worst match so far, England-France just now, a waste of a cigar and a negative advert for football. With 8 defenders in two lines in the english rear it was just ugly to watch and the french were harmless. Well, guess they reached an armistice with the english : you don't hurt us, we don't hurt you, so, yeah, quite fair result... Best matches so far : Spain-Italy, Dannmark-Netherlands, Russia-Chzech Rep. Sweden-Ukraine just started, we'll see. Can't be possibly worse.

Methinks the referee enjoys French wine and someone donated a number of cases of it to him befoer the match. The refs so far have been pretty bad. What I don't get is the Champions League get's the best refs from each league, but somehow these international tourneys get unheard of terrible refs. That ref was so biased towards France, then again Mr Platini was watching Both teams looked spent after an hour, guess the heat was a bigger factor than previously made out.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Interview with Spain after their match, they are complaining that the pitch prevented them from winning! *deluded!*
Puros Y Vino Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Gents.. Enough analysis. Don't bother. This is the Azzuri's year. After having Spain on the ropes for all of four minutes I predict good tidings.
CaptainQuintero Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Can't argue with you there, Italy have been the most impressive so far. Essentially playing the same way Juventus have in order to dominate Serie A this year they could go all the way. Pirlo rolling back the years! Talking about rolling back the years, Sheva is going to get a street named after him after this match!!!
riazp Posted June 11, 2012 Author Posted June 11, 2012 England will be pleased with the result. Commentator says lack of pace in the macth was due to the high heat. I can believe that. Its very unplesant to play in 30 celcius weather. Now watching ukraine-sweeden. Great second half. Good ol shevchenko has still got great pace. They might be the dark horse of group d with the home croud in their favor. And I agree ribery is a nasty piece of work. But with nasri, malouda and benzema they have the fire power to score. Hopefully england will go with walcott next match up front
mazolaman Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Fair result for England and France, either team could have nicked it. Ribery is still a nasty little cheat. Yep, and the ref left his guide dog at home. England played a dull defensive game, as predicted, but looked ok when they did make it forward. I thought Wellbeck played really well, and would love to see him and the newly hursuit Rooney in tandem. Gerrard also led by example. Negative tactics, but I don't think we could hope for more, with the sick list we have. France seem to run out of ideas, and benefited from some dodgy refereeing. Ukraine Sweden has turned in to a reasonable game..
