laficion Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 As ever year, The Barn Market,(Marché Vide-Ecuries) is being held again in our village of Calvisson in the south of France. First, it's another occassion for everyone you meet at the local cafés and have a chat,a drink and a smoke but also check out the stands where lots of vintage farm tools and old horse buggies dating from the late 1800's and early 1900's are either for sale or on expo . Even though today all of the farmwork is done with modern tools and agricultural machines, many of these old tools and horse pulled charriots are kept or sometime sold to others in the village for traditional or collectable reasons. For whatever the reason, it's always great to show them off and to enjoy a beautiful day with a fine get-together event just after winter, of course all this with food stands and wine tastings included. Here are a few pics. to give you an Idea. Mixing the old and the new ? Stands Inside stands in the old covered Market place, built in 1892, selling reigional foods & products. Outside event & donkey rides for the little ones.
Dbone Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Man looks like it was a spectacular day, Guy. My parents live on a farm and the my dad says some of the best tools are the old ones (late 19th / early 20th century), back when they made things to last... not to squeeze every last penny out of a tool made by a major corporation LOL Love the woman with the pink scarf, herself and her wagon really POP with color. And every good party HAS to have a donkey... check! :-)
Smallclub Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Inside stands in the old covered Market place, built in 1892, selling reigional foods & products. Guy, I guess the metallic "Art Nouveau" structure was built in 1892, but are the stone façade and brick walls older? Maybe an older market hall?

Maybe an older market hall? Frank, Today's covered market replaced the old covered market that was built in 1646 and destroyed in 1890, non of the old market was used in the building of the "new" one. Here is one of the only pic. of the old covered market one taken before it was gone. And one of the "new" one built in 1892-94.
