What do you guys do with them when you open the cab...remove paper and ribbon, or not?

On a side note: I always like pulling the whole wheel out of the box, and smelling the foot, but putting the wheel back in always seems to be a challenge...

I leave the paper and ribbon in place. When taking the first cigar, I lift the bundle out and slide one out from under the ribbon.

When putting them back in, make sure the feet are even with eachother and carefully lower them in absolutely level with the cab, but with the cab tilted down slightly towards the caps to let gravity help keep the feet away from the edge. You shouldn't snag any of the feet on the edge that way.

I just cradle the wheel in the wax paper, holding the wax paper at each end, to lower the wheel back into the cab.

Have to smell the whole foot, one of the best aromas going...

Lifted up the bunch, took one out then had to cut the ribbon so I could get the lid back on the box

I didn't want to fiddle around to much.

Any idea what the purpose of the wax paper is? Everyone seems to be leaving it in...I take mine out, as it just seems to get in the way.

In my personal stash, ribbon and paper stays, when I first open I smell the feet of the bundle religiously. I slide out one cigar from the middle of the bundle as my first. Then put the whole thing back the way it came. If its on the shelves of the store, ribbon and paper are gone to facilitate picking by the customer.

i have always thought...and tried(shyly)to discuss on bb's from time to time...

paper wrap on bundles/cabs...the paper will inhibit aging somewhat...therefore creating a more complex cigar by causing the aging to take place starting from the head/foot.any other explaination why cabs produce a more complex cigar(i feel)than dress boxes???

if this is true...tubes should be the ultimate storage facility...slows aging as much as anything and the cigar has to age from the(tubes cap)cigars foot to the head.

like i said...i have mostly just thought about this...tried to discuss from time to time(even with "wayne" on the old "icc")...never had much for results or responses to my theory.

I leave the ribbons and paper intact. Easy to slide a cigar out from the bundle.

How it came is how it stays. There's nothing as sexy as a bundle snug in ribbon. There's no melancholy as satisfying as a near empty cab, loose ribbon and paper, and those last few bon ami resting at the bottom.

Derrek,

It's my sense that this topic has been discussed in great detail on a number of forums. Was there some direction or point you wanted to raise that has not been adequately debated?

I leave everything just the way it is, as I think the presentation of a cab is just spot on. For my first cigar from a cab I always slide one out from the center.

There is less friction with the wax paper on the wood parts of the box, so it damage less the wrappers.

I 100% agree with this. In my opinion wax paper will lead to better aging if it's air tight, however, inside the box it's loose and only covers 4 of 6 sides. It's the same reason why NC's come in cellophane, it helps protect the cigars in transit. Plus there is just something elegant about wax paper covering all your cigars and having to fiddle your way in to get to the first stick.
