cckandb24 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 So I have a box of 08 Boli GM s and it seems everyone of them has great construction and is filled prefectly but when smoking them, if I go more than 3 or 4 minutes without taking a puff then it goes out. What is the deal with this. Had it happen to me the other day with an HDM. Really pisses me off, does anyone know the cause. Thanks
CanuckSARTech Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Three or four minutes? To me, that seems like a bit of a long time. For me, standard puffs are every minute or two at the biggest spacing, especially with thinner gauge cigars. It may be just too much time left unattended / unpuffed. But, it could also be too damp of conditions also. A few too many variables to take a more solid guess right now. Sorry.
Fuzz AI Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Try dry boxing for 24 hours and see if it makes a difference. If it does, then check the humidity in your humidor.
Wil Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I am having the exact same problem with a box of 08 gold medals. I would say its worse than every three or four minutes - they need constant attention to stop them from going out.
Wil Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I should add that mine are humidified at a pretty stable 65/65
cigaraholic Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 You can't expect to wait 3 minutes between puffs and have a cigars stay lit. It does happen but you can't smoke a cigar like that. When I leave my cigar in the car to do a quick errand I love to see if it's still going when I come back, sometimes I'm amazed how long I'm gone and it's still going. But that's a one time deal. I find most cigars will go out if you try to stick to one puff a minute. A Bolivar GM should take about 1 hour to smoke, it's not a 3 hour cigar.
jsd Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 Not sure about the BGM's in particular, but I find that earlier in the cigar I can wait longer between puffs without relighting. It seems that, in general, in about the last third it is impossible to wait more than a minute or so between puffs or it will go out. I always find that odd. But I would try dry boxing as suggested earlier. Could be a moisture issue.
Fuzz AI Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 I should also note that the surrounding humidity will also affect your burn, eg smoking just after it has rained.
cckandb24 Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 I would agree it has happened in less than 3 minutes. I have had it go out just over a minute even when I just relit it. I run the Humi at 63 percent and usually always dry box for a few hours beforehand. I don't think humidity is an issue.
cckandb24 Posted December 12, 2011 Author Posted December 12, 2011 And let's just say out of a thousand plus cigars that I have smoked, and I smoke them all the same. The GMS and the one HDM is the only ones that it has ever happened. I know others have had problems with the gold medals, so what is the problem
Guest rob Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 ELs often give me the same issue... I think it's due to the fact they're using flame retardant wrappers. The BGMs also appear to use similarly dark wrappers to the ELs.
dB69 Posted December 12, 2011 Posted December 12, 2011 The more ligero there is in the blend, the more difficult is the burn. Does anyone agree with me?

Ginseng Posted December 13, 2011 Posted December 13, 2011 The more ligero there is in the blend, the more difficult is the burn. Does anyone agree with me? The BGM don't strike me as particularly potent cigars so I don't know about the ligero hypothesis for []ithese[/i] sticks. That said, early on, I definitely had a hard time keeping them burning well. Same situation with the RA Estupendos and the Trinidad Ingenios. They struck me as oily cigars, but not particularly potent. I haven't touched an RAE or Ingenios in over a year so perhaps it's time to try them again. Wilkey
Roy R. Frush Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 Guys, you're supposed to remove the foil prior to lighting!
Wil Posted December 14, 2011 Posted December 14, 2011 A Bolivar GM should take about 1 hour to smoke, it's not a 3 hour cigar. There is no way I could smoke a GM in an hour. It's not a short cigar. It would just burn hot.
