El Presidente Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Spent the day yesterday in the bowels of the warehouse looking through December stock for FOH. The Good Mareva and Half Corona's Juan Lopez PC /Upmann PC, Secretos, excellent. PLPC maintaining form. Great to see some real quality boxes of Siglo II as it has been some time. Cabs of Shorts, Principe, Reyes all very good. The Bad and the Ugly Monte 4's were appalling. What a shame given some of the brilliant boxes we have been able to select this year. Not this month gents. Robusto's/Therabouts The Good D4 lovers will have a lot to be happy about. Superb boxes selected and generally excellent stock (well above average). HDM Epi 2 lovers same. Cracker boxes. SLR Regio the best in a long time. Some excellent Cohiba Robusto. RASS solid. Trini "T's solid. Brilliant HDM Petit Robusto and excellent Monte Petit Edmundo. The Bad ERDM CX have been hit with the same ugly stick as the Famosos. Seriously poor both of them. R&J Short Churchill back to mediocre. R&J E4 same. Corona Extra Strong performance across the board. Mag 46 still if anything a cut above but the best Cohiba Siglo IV in a year. No bad performers excluding R&J Exhibicion 3 Dalia/thereabouts. 898 are magnificent. Dieux brilliant. Siglo III Robusto Extra/thereabouts Some good Siglo VI this month but overall still disappointing. Trini Robusto Extra...some very good boxes. Excellent Monte Edmundo. Generally poor R&J Wide Churchill. Piramides/Beli's Very good M2 and solid Partagas Serie P2. BBF Excellent, SP Belicoso back to being disappointing. Very good La Punta. Upmann 2 a struggle outside of a little excellent stock set aside. Skinnies Very good Lanceros. Very good BGM. Most of everything else excluding some hand selected boxes was poor. Churchills DC Partagas Lusi 25's are a standout. Brilliant. 50 cabs of Boli Corona Gigantes also brilliant. SLR DC excellent. RAG excellent. Esplendidos...some crackers. Most of the other Churchills/DC are solidly good but needed hand picked examples. Overall, it was a "solid" shipment but I am bitterly disappointed with the Monte 4. The quality was so far below what I have come to expect and I often use the M4 as the "canary in the mine" for the Cuban Cigar Industry. If they still have the capacity to produce this crap then there are still so many things they need to fix. 3 of the boxes inspected had been rejected in factory (upside down central cigar top layer)......yet no one gave a rats arse and still let them through. Sums up the M4 shipment entirely.
riazp Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Thanks for letting us know prez! I never knew that about the "in factory" rejects. Interesting tidbit. Still no RASCC I see... X2 on the Rascc's...whats the story on these rob, they have gone MIA?
El Presidente Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 X2 on the Rascc's...whats the story on these rob, they have gone MIA? No Rascc in the Asia Pacific Region currently. No idea at this point what the immediate future is. With Rascc....it is feast or famine.
SCgarman Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Rob, no mention of BOLIVAR, did any fresh boxes come in?
TWalker Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 What a drag about the M4's. I was really hoping for a great box for Christmas. Ah well, beyond our control. Maybe next month.
El Presidente Posted November 30, 2011 Author Posted November 30, 2011 Rob, no mention of BOLIVAR, did any fresh boxes come in? BBF/Boli Corona Gigantes Cabs, Boli PC (25's) and Boli Gold Medal excellent.
Dbone Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 Once again thank you for the update, Rob. It's very much appreciated. I'll be eyeing another box of D4 and Epi 2 this month.
Scdalak Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Man Rob can we get some bloody consistency out of RJ??? They really piss me off! :forkyou:
CanuckSARTech Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 What a drag about the M4's. I was really hoping for a great box for Christmas. Ah well, beyond our control. Maybe next month. My thoughts exactly. Sad to hear - been really buggin' and looking forward lately to try to get some stellar Monte PSP stuff. Fingers crossed for next picks, next month maybe. Rob, thanks again for these little update tidbits. Nice to know a bit of what you're discovering on that end. Well done, and thanks. Cheers.
cellinisart Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Rob how have the wide churchills been tasting? My taste has moved lately to the R&J and punch profile.
El Presidente Posted December 1, 2011 Author Posted December 1, 2011 Rob how have the wide churchills been tasting? My taste has moved lately to the R&J and punch profile. Sour Cherry. Touch of Milk coffee. Easy draw which I think takes a little bit away from them. Needs 2 years to sort themselves out but one of those cigars that will keep me wondering how they age. the right box are enjoyable now but you know they are slightly muted flavourwise. There are members who swear by them and I can see why when I hit a cracker. I am still just a little reserved on them.
goalie204 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 just emailed and was told no trini robusto extras

I like the sour fruit from both R&J and punch and to me they are the only two lines that are that closely related in flavor.

I also enjoy the cherry tang from R and J, which I also find most on cedros ranges. Which brings me on to, Did you see any Salamones of any worth while shopping?
beamer Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 Glad I scooped up a box of HQ Monte 4s from you a few months ago. Haven't touched them yet. I'm not usually so self controlled.
nick17 Posted December 1, 2011 Posted December 1, 2011 dam now its going to be hard to place an order next week
rfenst Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Rob, Which of these are smoking well right now? I want to make sure my next purchase will be ready to go OTT or with a few weeks of acclimation. Thanks, Robert
