Went to the cigar shop near work last week. Needed a few sticks for the weekend, and didn't have the time to go all the way downtown to my usual shop.

I've never been a fan of this shop, as the cigars I've bought there have never really impressed me. Sometimes, I even suspect them of selling fakes. Also, their range was always really poor

Anyway, I walk into the humidor, poking around. They seem to have boosted their stock with a few cigars I hadn't seen there before.

Then, right before my eyes I see the following:

3 BOXES OF DIP 4s

3 BOXES OF ERDM GRANDES DE ESPANA

3 BOXES OF ERDM TAINOS

When I inquired, the shop assistant said that he had plenty more boxes of each of these cigars, as no-one was really interested in the thin or small cigar sizes, and the Cubans aren't that popular because they just don't look cool enough for the typical clientele.

Man, I love living in this country sometimes. (I stress the word "sometimes")

(fyi, I've only smoked the Dip 4 so far. My first one actually. Was great! Planning on trying the GdE tonight, which is my all time favourite cigar. Will report back)

That's the definition of serendipity!

Still have a couple of dip 4's, but am unlikely to get hold of the others, so enjoy!

Great find indeed Kangaroo, I'm sure that there are great finds to be made in Moscow,

since at the time, (80's & 90's) Cuba was tradeing a lot of cigars and sugar in exchange

for petro from Russia. I would check out the little shops to see If they still have old

boxes of Habanos forgotten somewhere. Maybe You could even find some Davidoffs, anything

is possible.

Happy hunting bro . :)

Very cool. I need me to get my hands on more boxes of Dip 4's. The four I have are not enough to last me through the next 5 years, let alone decade! Still hunting for more....

How are your prices there in Russia on stuff like the Dip 4's, in comparisons to the international markets? Kangaroo, do you mind - would you please send me a PM with what your prices are like there? I'm curious how it compares to what I've been finding lately.

And, I love Guy's point - it would be AMAZING to be going treasure hunting for some very old stock like that, hidden like buried treasure in some cigar shops in Russia, relics of days gone by. Very cool. Great observation, Guy!

I'd sure be interested in hunting through their warehouse to see what treasures I could "help them out of".

If Cuban's aren't of interest to the Russians, what are they into? Fuentes and the like?

Congrats Kanga! That is a terrific find, hopefully you purchased all 9 boxes. Enjoy those great smokes...

Exactly so, in other words, if you have worried in the past about cigar authenticity regards that shop,

beware the main stream formates, but thin ring gage cigars - apart from beeing just delightfully true to the marcas and a pure joy to smoke - are most likely to be real.

Cheers and enjoy!

Sascha. ;)

Just curious...what is the cost like in Russia to purchase tobacco products? Do you have a high tax on tobacco goods?
