dB69 Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Bolivar Especiales #2 RE 2009 Germany. Cigar taken from the middle of the bunch. Stored at 65% RH. Coke as beverage. Listened to cool bands YUP & The Who. (Greetings to Roger! ) Excellent firm construction without any veins. Cold smell of the wrapper: Citrus, allspice, tobacco, leather. Mmmm, very nice! Cutting with scissors. Firm draw, excellent! Cold taste: Premium tobacco. First third: Body and flavour light to medium. Nutty tobacco and fresh leaves of birch. A slight hint of chili. Some mild christmas spices. Basically this cigar reminds me of Party SdC#2. Allspice. Black pepper starts to sneak in. Nuttiness. Quite a long ash drops to the table. Pepper has increased to medium with some sweetness. Second third: Medium body and flavour. Toasted tobacco with pepper and hints of toffee. Some liquorice with tobacco. Some sharp citrus. Now this cigar feels like a Bolivar. Citrus, allspice and toasted tobacco are nicely layered. Stabile flavours for a long time. Slight creaminess. Third third: Body and flavour medium to full. Suddenly a strong toffee aroma which blends to gradually increasing citrus. Some woody notes with mild sweetness on the background. Cream and pepper with bonfire. Some nice tar. This is still a bit young cigar. Tarry tobacco, in a good way. Spices and very "black" flavours. Good aftertaste, but it disappears quite soon. Straight burning from start to finish. Smoking time 1:40. Very nice cigar, but it didn't reach my "wow-level", certainly worth buying though.
Lotusguy Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Nice review! I love these sticks... picking up my third box next month
Hohenthal Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 Thanks for the review, in my estimation, one of the best Regionales ever!
android Posted November 11, 2011 Posted November 11, 2011 I've enjoyed this cigar as well...I noticed that your box appears to be missing the words "HABANA" accross Simon on the lower portion of the band just like mine...Not sure if they were all shipped out like this.
Charltonc Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I was debating buying a box. I think I will just buy a sampler pack. Has anyone tried the Bolivar 109 regional edition, I love the size, but I have heard mixed reviews.
FrankBlack87 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 personally, i love these cigars! nice review!

As far as I know, only pre-production cigars had the Habana text shown. http://www.cubancigarwebsite.com/brand.aspx?brand=Bol|ivar#194_Edici|on_Regional_Alemania Trevor
FrankBlack87 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 These are definately one of the best RE. Yea like trevor said.. i dont think any of them say habana on the boli band. Mine dont, havent seen any that do.
Lotusguy Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 I have never seen a box that has the white text on the band (and I have seen quite a few boxes). Regarding the Boli 109, I had two of them and didn't like them at all boring and relatively harsh with a loose draw. Quite surprising, given how much I like the Especial and Boli in general.

If you can get it, there is (was?) a 2009 German RE sampler box that had 2 of each in a nice wooden box. I bought that sampler when I was in Germany and that is how I tried the two vitolas for the first time. It prompted me to get a couple of boxes of the Especial.
headstand Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 All I have to say is : Where do I order these bad boys from. I love Bolis and I love that format!!!!
Hohenthal Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Has anyone tried the Bolivar 109 regional edition, I love the size, but I have heard mixed reviews. I was'nt thrilled with the 109 but I tried some Er Bolivar 108 (Corona Gorda) on a concert tour in Spain and I was very impressed: 108 are strong, full bodied in flavour, with very rich and layered aroma and surprisingly accessible at an early state. Some of the Corona Extra spice plus the citrus peel and the cocoa and coffee of other Bolivars, creamy. Highly recommended!

Michel1968 Posted November 12, 2011 Posted November 12, 2011 Nice review!!! Good cigar that definitely pulled some WoW!'s from my palate... As most others already wrote, the '109' is seriously underwhelming. Some '108' singles are waiting to be smoked but intuition has it to keep them in that state for some additional time. We'll see...
Plato Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 A friend of my father gave me one of these about six months ago. I was going to smoke it last month, but when I clipped it I was sad to discover that the draw was way too tight I keep my humi at about 63% RH. Im going to dry box this for a week and see if I have any luck. Great review & Cheers

Has anyone tried the Bolivar 109 regional edition, I love the size, but I have heard mixed reviews. The 109s are far too mild for such a large cigar. Save your money & get the Boli CGs. I have a box of the Especiale #2s but have yet to open it.
dangolf18 Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 About a month ago. Very good rich bolivar taste. Smoking well but could still use some more aging.
jrb5783 Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 I have a almost full box right now I love them I bury them deep in my cooler so I try to forget about them but they are very good IMO and I love the size Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Habana Mike Posted May 27, 2014 Posted May 27, 2014 Smoked one this month, they're quite good but I believe will only improve. Gone through a box and a half, have a box and a half to go.....
