Hi from sunny havana,

been here now for 6 days and have a wonderful time with good old friends and new ones.

Great cigars, trying the new releases that are just now being tasted for the right blend and having good dinners and lots of fun ... like this morning at the Comodor pool bar passing out cigars to a group of ... north koreans that shared fun with me. Incredible.

Will be here for 6 weeks this time, staying a week in the Vuelta Abajo.

Rob / you are sorely missed by your good friends here and I'd like to THANK you for hooking me up with great people.

Adios / gotta go back to smoking :-))

Have a great trip! Looking forward to your trip report! I'll be in Habana in 5 weeks, perhaps we will bump into each other if you are still around.

Cigar smoking North Koreans in Comodoro ,,,, wow .

The only North Koreans I met in Cuba were mildly starving students like any other students .

Very cool, Nino. Thanks for the update. You'll have to keep us all appraised of when you have this all updated on your blog as well, so that we can check out the full details and pictures.

And, next time....don't feel afraid to fly on by my ways, and pick me up to take with you. I'd gladly be your luggage mule! LOL.

Cheers, and best wishes for a great trip! Enjoy your time there, senor.

Hi guys,

am at the Melia Habana with Nic Wing right now, we spent the day together yesterday, visiting La Corona factory with Jose and Toby ( some pics of Andorra PL RS ER in a carbon fiber humidor, only 600 made and saw the ER UAE there ) ) and then Mojitos at Quinta & 16 with Carlos Robaina, lunch at Vistamar paladra by the sea, coffe and cigars at the Melia Habana casa plus 2 bottles of Seleccion de Maestros rum ........ some siesta and dinner at La Fontana paladar in Miramar.

Had a religious experience yesterday / smoked the 1966 Cohiba ... Nic took some pics of me with an open mouth and closed eyes... WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW what a cigar ! Inf..credible, one of the best cigars I've had in life. Hope to put my hands on some more boxes.

Today will be a contrast programme, I am out later to Parque Almendares with a cuban friend and his wife, he's employed by the state fighting dengue fever and earns monthly less than the 1966 costs. We'll spend the day there and have some good cuban food.

The weather is cloudy and a waiter told me this morning that a hurricane is coming up from central america, heading for HAV and western Cuba.

Picking up some 150 cigars for smoking here today / been smoking 6/7 cigars a day, mostly BHK and some vintage stuff I brought for Jose and my cuban friends. Shared the 1999 H&F vintage selection RyJ Exh. Nr 4 and some ER's like the SP Escuderos Germany and RA Benelux.

Been invited tomorrow to a monthly cigar dinner for diplomats/buss.men at the Melia Cohiba and look forward to this as it is organized by my good friend Dr Luis Sorinas, one of the best and most knowledgeable guys in the HAV cigar world and a professor of the "Diplomado de habanos" (Master of Habanos" course here.

You will have to wait until I am back in Germany for pictures, as I have no laptop here and cannot upload pics.

But I am giving all my pics to Jose / Punch Joe and he might find a way to post some for me.

Saludos

Nino

PS : Rob, by chance I wore a Springbok rugby shirt yesterday and at La Corona one of the box guys ( actually he was stamping the boxes with the code/date stamp ) talked to me about rugby, he's a coach for the cuban female rugby team, and I hooked him up with Toby who's planning a rugby match now with him .... incredible / no coincidences / north koreans one day / female rugby the next / Only in Cuba ....

DAMN IT!!!!! Thats NOT what I wanted to hear about these cigars since they are going for a ridiculous price right now. Hopefully they stay consistent and I'll get them when the price/hype dies down.

Hey Nino is Antonio still working at the Melia Habana. I remember seeing him there a couple of years ago working the upstairs lobby bar. We have had a couple of good road trips with Antonio and his lady, particularly a trip out to Pinar del Rio a few years ago. He's a great guy and I think you know him as well.

quick sitrep on today,

was invited to the tasting for new releases at the Hotel Nacional, 09 to 12 am, had 2 Hermosos Nr 4, different blends and then a Julieta, different cigar from the new RyJ Churchill Gran Reserva tasted last friday. Very educational and great company with Jose / Punch Joe and me at the table, taking pics.

Nic Wing left yesterday and I gave him a few hundred pics I've taken so far for him to use of a fantastic dinner ( and lunch and good times ) we had at Melia Cohiba, monthly affair, hosted by my friend Dr Luis S. and we enjoyed a RA EL 2011, traditional cuban food of the best quality, spanish Rioja and after dessert a VR from 1998 with 18 yr old Scotch / the VR coming back to Cuba from Switzerland ...

Tonight grand opening of the VIP cigar lounge at the Habana Libre, will be there with Toby, Jose, Dr. S and the gang and later to Don Cangrejo.

Hot and humid as a snake's ass and tomorrow the hurricane will hit the city and Pinar area, so postponing my trip to the Vuelta Abajo.

Cheers, great life here, but many sad stories as well / a real contrast programme ...

Wish everyone living in these dire circumstances would have the same cheerful and warm spirit as the cuban friends.
