Art,

Yes and Yes, maybe LCDH friday night? I know Marc and Carlos over there, if we buy one cigar from the humi we can basically smoke our own, and if I let them know in advance, they'll make sure to have mint in stock for the best mojitos in montreal.

I'm a maybe for everything... :rotfl:

Never heard of L'ile noire. For scotch, ye olde Orchard pub is surprisingly decent in selection, and of course Whisky Cafe (which has a cigar room, but charges a d-bag 10$ cut fee).

I like the idea of scotch and cigars. I don't mind the cut fee for the convenience.

just my 2 cents

Glenfiddich 12 in the same breath as the Mac 30? Really? And if it is a budget thing with the Glenfiddich 12, then is the Mac 30 THAT much better than the 18?

lol, I didnt always have money.... But I can still appricate a good drink... I tend to like Glen 12

Most of what's been mentioned are good scotches. I just prefer what feels like a more pure product bottled straight from rhe casks from independent bottlers. Having said that, there are alot of malts I prefer much more then any glen*. Just MHO. Cadenhead is my go to bottler.

If I'm forced to drink sctoch, I go for Speysides. Cardhu 12 yo, Balvenie Doublewood etc.

The reason's simple, they taste more like (proper) Irish whiskey than the other rubbish. I like the smell of turf, a lot. I just don't like eating it. :)

I suppose there might be some bias in this post :)

Redbreast for life!

Springbank 12 yo 100 Proof from the early nineties. A true sherry monster to my liking.

Longrow Sauterne Wood another profile altogether, but a real treat.

Benrinnes Flora and Fauna again something different, but to be recommended as a real classic.

All the above bottlings go well with a long and skinny cigar.

Really tough!

Lagavulin Destillers Edition - It's what me and the wife had in the quaich at our wedding, adds a complex sweetness to the standard 16yo.

Dalmore 18yo - Christmas pudding sweetmess and spice with just a little smoke underneath, the cigar malt is also nice if you can get it.

Talisker 57 Degrees North - Powerful and complex this is maybe my favourite Talisker, takes me right back to Skye.

The Balvenie Portwood - The Balvenie is bay far my favourite Speyside distillery, the doublewood is a great intro scotch.

Ardbeg Corryvreckan - Another 57% bottle, by far the best Ardbeg I have tried. An amazing mix of strong peat with citrus highlights.

Just sticking with stuff that you should be able to find at any neighborhood package store, which is where most of my experience is:

1.) Lagavulin 16

2.) Talisker 18

3.) Talisker 10

4.) Caol Ila 12

5.) Oban 14

Thanks for all of your input everyone.

Looks like Lagavulin 16, Laphroag Quater Cask, Highland Park 18 seem to get the most votes between the 2 boards that I have asked the question.

Will have to add these to the 'try before you buy list'.

I had a Laphoaig 18 last night. WOW!! Beautiful stuff.

It seems you have a preference for smoky, heavily peated Single Malts.

If you feel like something else for a change, i.e. a deep, spicy sherry cask type of Malt,

I should recommend:

Dalmore 12 or 15

Macallan (not the fine oak, go for 100 % sherry cask)

Highland Park fits in both cattegories .
